I have just been prescribed 7.5 mg of Methotrexate a week for a lung condition, if I take my weekly dosage on Sunday, would it be alright to have a couple drinks by the weekend? I have not started taking it yet, so I have no idea of how my body will react to the medication, but I am just curious because I like to have a glass or two of wine with dinner.

i have been on 10mg a week. i have a couple glasses of wine on wed or thurs night and sometimes 4 drinks over the course of a saturday night. doc said that should be fine if the blood tests are normal.  doctor said this is ok as long as blood tests are normal.

I think that's the key thing. Everyone is different and the only way to know for sure what is safe for YOU is regular blood tests. For some people, 2 beers a week could be a disaster. For others, 20 beers a day might be OK. So I guess regular tests, gradually building up from zero alcohol to a level you find acceptable is the way forward so longs as the bloods come back OK.

Apparently 80-100% of MTX is discharged from the body within 24 hours, when on doses for Autoimmune.

Half-life: Psoriasis, rheumatoid arthritis, and low-dose cancer treatment, 3-10 hr; high-dose treatment, 8-15 hr

Excretion: Urine (80-100% within 24 hr), feces (small amounts)

Methotrexate may cause liver problems, and taking it with other medications that can also affect the liver such as ethanol may increase that risk. You should avoid or limit the use of alcohol while being treated with these medications

Mtx works by suppressing the cell division ability. The liver is the body's detoxifier and thus drugs including mtx pass by there. The liver survives the toxic effects of whatever we throw at it by being a champion at regeneration.. the only organ(cells) that can do so in humans.. but then the mtx suppresses its regeneration ability. So it is not about haif life its about suppressed liver growth
