So is the black eye normal? I had apicoectomy 3 days ago and my eye is really swollen and I thought it was an unusual reaction. How long did it last for?

The actual procedure after you freeze is about 20 minutes max. I did swell and had a stiff upper lip for about 4 days. Overall the front top incisor is the easist tooth to do for the Endodontist (don't let a dentist do it). There is no pain at all with the proceedure.

WELL WHAT NO ONE IS MENTIONING HERE IS THAT THE OVERHAUL RATE THAT THESE LAST IS 60 %. I HAD MINE IN 2007, NOW I HAVE A INFECTION AND BECAUSE OF GETTING THE APICOECTOMY, ( there isnt enough root left) so my new choice is a extraction, implant and cap on a front tooth!!!! WHICH BY THE WAY INS. DOESNT USUALLY COVER COSMETICS....FOR THE LITTLE BOY, GET A SECOND OPPINION GOOD LUCK

I just it done on 2/8/13 on tooth #30 (molar, back right, second to the last) and I heard all sorts of horror stories about the intense pain after the surgery. It took a total of 1 hour 40 minutes, and 4 stitches later, I was done and going home. Done right in the office, and just had to keep ice on/off my face and lie low for a couple days afterwards, and one week later, the four stitches in my gums are removed. Not bad at all. I went to Endodontics Specialists in Fayetteville, NY, and Dr. Barnhart was excellent ! If you can handle some mouthwash that doesn't taste the best, a little ice on your face, and you will do great ! I fretted up to the day it was done, and now I wonder why I was so nervous....I hope not to have to do it again, but if I do, I know where to go ! :) Take care !

For the long run, I recommend reading "Cure Tooth Decay."  It is a great tool to help your son heal his teeth through diet and lifestyle and also illuminates the dentistry system.  Very empowering.

I had an apicoectomy in 1999. As soon as the anesthesia wore off I developed a severe case of dry eye. I has made my lide miserable for 14 years. The only solutions are 1. tear duct plugs 2. daily eye ointment. I would have rather lost the tooth, which eventually did happen due to poor skills of the dentist doing the procedure.

I just had one done on upper molar. I had several shots to numb the area. I didn't feel any other pain. I had a large cyst removed. the whole procedure took an hour. I was given RX for 800 mg ibruprofen and told to ice all day. that was 2 days ago and now I am more swollen and hurts a little more. I was not given any antibiotics or pain reliever besides he ibruprofen. I would describe it as a dull ache. I go back in a week to take out the stitches that haven't dissolved.

Was wondering if your tooth pain every went away? I had 6 porcelain crowns done many years ago for cosmetic reasons and have had pain for years on my front tooth. They have done several root canals, but still the same pain. Now they want to do an apicoetomy. I just don't know if it is worth the money, and if it will really solve the pain issue..
