My friend has Borderline Personality Disorder. She is 23 years old and she is a very good person but she had a lot of problems in childhood. She goes to doctor regularly and she is better now. Recently she started to use antidepressants. I want to know are Antidepressants used for Borderline Personality Disorder Treatment?

Yes, antidepressants are important part of treatment. Well, medications can't cure BPD, but they can help associated problems, such as depression, impulsivity and anxiety. Medications may include antidepressant, antipsychotic and antianxiety medications. It takes about three months for benefit to appear, compared to the three to six weeks for depression.

Hello there,

It is very commendable that you are so big support for your friend and that you are so interesting in her condition and that you want to be absolutely sure that she is doing everything she can to fight depression.

It is very hard to live with depression and she needs support of a people who surrounds her. Sometimes it is very hard to understand why people even suffer from this condition especially young people but our brain is organ which is not explored all the way through and for some question we maybe never will have answers.

These medications will help her to feel better and hopefully one day she will be able to function normal even without them.
