Hello,
I am 13 years old and two months ago I got my first period. It didn’t hurt me before, but today I felt horrible- I felt cramping, so I took some painkillers to release the pain. Now I feel better, but I still have this strange feeling in lower part of a stomach. Is it normal to have cramps during period?

Hey,
Yes, it is normal to have some cramping during first day of period, at least I had them. Actually, I still do. It was very hard for me at the beginning, now I feel them for two hours the first day, and then it is better. I also took some strong painkillers when I was younger, but now the pain is not as strong as it used to be. Position of the body is also very important. When you feel cramping, bend your knees and put them towards your stomach- curl up a little (not too much). This is very relaxing position for cramping; it ease the pain, although pain is so strong, that because some position, pain won’t disappear. I think it would be smart for you to visit a gyn now when you have a period (I mean when the period is over- it is more hygienic) and describe a doctor that you have pain… and she/he will give you some painkillers, appropriate for teenagers.
