I chew gum while cycling. The gum has aspartame in it. Thinking this could be the cause of the back side of my tongue burning with some sort of sore. So far back I cannot see it. Going to stop chewing gum for a while to figure this out.

I just started using arpartame and gives my a sore or burning throat everytime I drink it.
I've been reading up on it and found it's unhealthy and dangerous to consume it. My
body is telling me that it is harmful so no more aspartame.

every time i have something with this aspartame in it, the mucus membranes inside my mouth get burned like i had scalding hot coffee...and it lasts for weeks til it finally heals..if it does this to the inside of my mouth, i hate to think what it is doing to the inside of my digestive system. Lately I have had various other sweet products that do not state that they have aspartame in them because i do not buy anthing sweet anymore without reading the full label, but i instantly get this sore mouth and sometimes it even extends out toward my lips also... This is just wrong to let this stuff be on the market simply so some company can use less of it than sugar and thus make more profits...Does it always have to be about the money rather than the welfare of the people???

I've had the same issues, about 4 months ago I started drinking Coke and Pepsi Zero and developed blisters in my mouth and a burning sensation on my tongue. Went to the doctor, and it was ruled a sinus infection, but the pain remained after a course of antibiotics. Finally, I started to notice that after drinking a zero soda it would flair up so I eliminated all artificial sweeteners from my diet and it was as if I flipped a switch, all pain went away in about 2 days. I will never touch that c**p again.

Hi, guys.

It sounds like you may have had an allergic reaction to an ingredient in the Coke and Pepsi Zero, most likely to the artificial sweeteners they contain, such as aspartame, sucralose or acesulfame potassium. It is not uncommon for people to have allergic reactions to artificial sweeteners, which can cause symptoms such as mouth blisters, tongue burning and other discomfort.

It's good that you identified the trigger and eliminated it from your diet, which helped alleviate your symptoms. It's also important to be aware of the ingredients in the foods and beverages you consume, and to read labels carefully, especially if you have a history of food allergies or sensitivities.

Good luck to all!
