I too have the same problem and have had it now for about 5 years. It began like an irritating itch on my ankle as if it was a flee bite. Then later I noticed that I was itching spots on both ankles, legs, thighs, my arms, almost symmetrical spots on both sides of my body.  I would itch like I was possessed and I still do.  The doctor gave me treatment for follicultis - cream and antibiotics but that didn't work. The homeopath said that I needed a detox which eased the symptoms but didn't work either. I've tried various creams, oils, tried to drink and eat a balanced diet but the itching still hasn't gone away nor the spots - oh the spots. I should be going on holiday this year and I'm already dreading the thought of deciding what I'm going to wear to hide my arms and legs - in the blazing hot sun.  I love sports especially swimming but with these spots I'm too embarrassed for anyone to see my arms or legs.  I'm even embarrassed when my husband or children see them, or see me scratching away.  To add to all of this, last year I noticed that I had a fatty lump appear just below my right shoulder.  No pain or discomfort at all just another defect which I also try to disguise.

But I'm determined to beat this,  I recently searched the web looking for possible causes and solutions to these spots and came upon the symptoms of wheat allergy and found that this matched my symptoms including this fatty lump (Lipoma) and to my surprise, sinus problems, which I have but never connected to the itching.  So, it is possible that  I may have a wheat allergy or an allergy to something I'm eating.   I worked with a lady who had problems with her joints and retired early because of it.  Her husband became ill and had to cut dairy products out of his diet which she also decided to do and she is now a new woman, roller skating and everything, she's 62 but you get the picture :)

I'm sure this itching and these spots and my other ailments are due to something that I am ingesting.  So instead of itching my body to shreds and dressing in a make shift berka on holiday, I will now monitor my diet and begin by eliminating wheat for a week, see how I feel and take it from there.

I hope this has been useful.

the problem could be due to "venous stasis" its due to poor return of blood from legs back to heart and associated also with varicose veins. due to poor return, blood stagnates, local small veins near ankle or lower foot break releasing iron (hemoglobin) into foot tissues causing dark brown spots. requires professional attention. reportedly some BP medicines can cause start of this condition, so try changing in case you are taking some med.

I had this acouple of years ago. I have alergies with soap and one of my socks got into my husbands wash load and at the time I thought I could get away with wearing the one sock since it was only my foot. Oh how wrong I was. Not only did it itch most the day when I was out and I couldn't take the sock off but that night when I was sleeping I started scratching the top of my foot in my sleep. My morning it was getting raw. I washed in CHLORHEXIDINE GLUCONATE  (hibitane a Disinfectant surgical scrub) and everything was fine. It has been 2 years since then and I still have the brown spots from where I was rubbing and scratching. I  can't figure out how or why the brown spots are still there. I have tried a bunch of things like face cream for dark spots but it didn't seem to work.

I think I am going to try vitimin C on the area and see if that will work. It's supposed to work of dark spots... Any one else have any better ideas?

I started having these rashes back in 2009. They used to start with red spots itchy then they turn black. It spread from my lower legs to my claves then went on till my hips, that is when I really got distressed. My doc told me, it was allergy to oils and creams. He gave me medicines, which at first did not work, I made a second visit and I responded well to Rablet, Actilife and Allegra each once a day and topical applications of Execare mixed with Hydromost. The itching stopped. I had it for 20 days, after which I stopped and it popped back again. Then I used some, topical cream named execare, with Hydromost. But, I did a natural remedy along with the local medicine called Sapat lotion for three days all the time also using the topical lotion and hydromost. My doc told me the trick is in not letting the skin dry. Then I remembered when I was a child, I had a skin eruption on my thighs, which was treated by a ayurvedic doctor. Mom applied paste of Neem leaves (India Lilac or Azadirachta) and raw turmeric. The eruptions had gone. I started making a paste and putting them on in the night in thick layers on the diseased area all the while having the medicines prescribed as well as the topical cream and lotion in day time. Within ten days it was off and gone, my skin good as new.
Recently, I had some personal problems that brought on depression. The problems are still on. Within a year, I was diagnosed with diabetes, hyperthyrodism, cholestrol, spondylysis of the neck and the leg problem reappeared. I went through a regime of boiled foods to control the diabetes thinking the condition on my legs has reappeared due to the medical condition. I found that the leg issue is increasing with increasing stress in my life. I am getting ready to get in the neem treatment once again. This time it is on my feet and lower legs, before it climbs any higher into my legs, I want to try and curb it. Hope that it works once again for me. Hope this helps some of you. In India and Asia getting neem is not difficult.

What causes these dark rash that itch so bad

I think I may have the same issue. One of the marks has been left under my armpit and it has gone dark with few red spots around it. I'm trying - but unsuccessfully - to get an appointment at a doctor's to get it checked. My brother had a similiar problem I think. What is the best thing to get to get rid of the marks, and help pre-empt the issue? Itchiness not causing a massive problem at the moment

I have the same problem, visited dermatologists, took topical steroid creams, Ect to no healing result. I did much research and have come to conclude its related to diet. I have found its s form of candida. Whenever I eat foods with yeast (bread, beer, Ect) I start to itch and scratch (ashy dry skin) and will discolor from itching so much. I'll even take hot showers to help relieve itch but in reality it's causing more inflammation.. I also came to learn that SUGAR feeds the yeast and keeps it going. So you must cut that out of your diet as well. I was taking caprylic acid capsules for the problem as well .. Warning though, it gets worse before it gets better. A combination of cutting out these 2 main things yeast & sugar will help then you can slowly reintroduce in your diet. Very difficult to stick with. Also purchased terrasil (online) helped very much relieve itch and truly bring moisture back to the dry skin

Could I ask what steroid creams you've been given? I took a trip to the doctors and was advised it might be eczema which I find hard to accept considering my brother's history with Psoriasis. I've been given Oilatum which I'm finding actually makes me bit more itchy than normal. I'm looking for something to aid the itchynesss and to erase the marks.
