I need more information on barbiturate nebutal. How dangerous can it be if overdosed? What exactly its indication is? Tell me something about its effects. What’;s the most important about barbiturates? Thanks.

Nebutal is sedative hypnotic. It has narrow therapeutic index, which means that therapeutic and toxic doses are near to each other. It is depressant, reduces intensity of sensations and coordination. Nebutal causes addiction and severe withdrawn symptoms. It’s not even used any more, because there are new drugs synthesised that has less side effects and wider index. Barbiturates depress respiratory centre which can lead to coma and death. They were the most commonly used drugs for suicides in ’60.
