This is bizarre. I have the same symptoms everyone else does, and I'm miserable. I ate just a few Pine nuts three days ago, I've never had problems with them before, but now, suddenly, a metallic bitter taste whenever I eat or drink anything. And, yes, I am O+ blood type.
Do we have confirmation that it goes away after a few days?
And, is there a remedy? All the ones I see above are temporary fixes.
Thanks in advance.

I have read elsewhere that drinking Aloe Vera juice can aleviate the 'bad taste' - anyone tried that? Did it work?

OMG! I am so happy that I found this. I thought I had a bad tooth or was sick or was poisoned or something. Who would have thought, pinenuts? But I had a big handful of them on my salad 2 nights ago, after not eating them for a while.
I have had reflux before and I thought it was back. But I didn't have the associated heartburn. Nothing tasted good at all today. Like someone said earlier, it tasted like bug spray on my food.
I just had a handful of peanuts, and it seemed to "kill" the bitterness a little. I have tried everything I can think of to get rid of this taste, but peanuts are the best so far, especially it chased by cold water.
How long does this last?
Thank you to who ever figured this out and posted it here.

Thank the Buddha! I have been going CRAZY trying to figure out what was wrong with my taste buds. I've had a metallic taste in my mouth before due to medicine but this time it was bitter and I was afraid it was something bad. Plus I have been having stomach issues which I think are unrelated. Last week I made fresh Pesto sauce. I threw in a bag of Pine Nuts from Ralphs and didn't think twice. But now I realize the taste thing began then! That is when it started and that was 4days ago!! I can't understand why it is still happening. Will it go away soon I'm going mad and I want food to taste good again. And does anyone have an explanation?

Found this on ABC News. Apparently the taste is caused by a new type of Chinese export. Cheap Pine Nuts of a variety that cause this syndrome "Pine Mouth". Stay away from any pine nuts that say Country of Origin: China and you should be fine. However, they cost a whole lot more than the cheap pine nuts from China.

Same here - I was going nuts to figure out the horrible metallic after-taste in my mouth... sure enough I had pine nuts some 2 days before starting having syptoms. My bloodgroup is a+. For the record, this was a bag of pine nuts (small ones) bought in Stockholm and made by a Danish company - with no indication of origin. They are going to get an angry call tomorrow.
Thanks to all the posters, now I´m just worried that the reason might be pesticides (and my small kids had plenty of these nuts)

How interesting! I've been moaning at my husband about the bitter taste in my mouth for the last 2 days. I bought some pinenuts last week and have been eating them raw whenever I go into the fridge. I googled 'bitter taste in mouth when eating' and found this thread and am relieved that these symptoms will go.
My pinenuts were made by Good Sense and it says on the packet that they are a product of 'Spain, China or Portugal'.

I wonder how long this sensation will last. I made pesto this past week with pine nuts from Trader Joe's, and have this horrid taste in my mouth.I even tried honey and that tasted bitter. I think Trader Joe's better start shopping here in the US.

It lasted about a week for me. Worst part was, I love to cook and experiment with flavors. I had great smoked ribs that all of my guests loved and I could barely eat them without loosing my appetite. I tossed our Pinenuts out and will probably never eat them again, now that I know how bad the reaction can be. Even a big piece of cheesecake won't stay with you as long as this taste did.

Thank goodness for this post! Like so many others who have posted I also thought it was a symptom of neurological disease. I had pine nuts in a rocket salad on Saturday but the bitterness only became apparrent after I had a mouthful of cereal on Monday. Never would I have thought pine nuts were the cause, but it was the first time I had eaten them in years. Interesting also to see the post about blood type- I am an O+.
Thank you for everyone's insightful posts, it has really put my mind at ease.

Thank goodness I found this post! I thought my teeth were rotten and causing the problem. My bad taste started when I bought a jar of mixed nuts last week and I have been eating more of them to try and get rid of the taste DOH!
After reading about the cause I mentioned it to my partner who also tried the seeds last week and she also had the bitter taste as well but didn't mention it. It was only me finding this post and telling her why I have a bitter taste in my mouth that she also said she had the bitter taste!
I'm never eating pine nuts again!! Yuck

just found this thread. I too have had this bitter taste for the last week after buying pine nuts to make pesto.
These were bought in a popular supermarket in Bristol England. They seemed quite fresh, so perhaps lke someone suggested, it could be that some people have an allergy to them. My daughter ate the pesto and hasn't complained yet.

I think the Chinese pine nuts are to blame! I just put some toasted ones in green beens for the Thanksgiving day holiday here in the States and got this bitter-after taste. I have never had this problem before - thus I am blaming the new pine nuts I got that say product of China on them! I am so glad I found this site! I was losing it!

Thanks again to everyone who has posted here over the years. It really is amazing. I had about six tiny pine nuts on Thanksgiving and 24 hours later the symptoms that everyone has described hit. It really is an awful malady. I am on day three with no signs of abatement. Spicy food does seem to go down better with less bitterness afterwards but I am not going to subsist on Szechuan or Jalapenos for the next four days (please God let it be gone by then).
And I thought I hated broccoli. Pine Nuts have officially taken top slot on my food hate list.
