It was the most bizzare feeling I have ever felt: this bitter aftertaste in my mouth after eating and even drinking water. I would get sweet things like chocolate to counter the taste, but to na avail. After the sweet lindt was finished i would get back this bitter taste. I was rather worried of course and it did last a few days. The answer that it was the pine nuts sounded like a prophetic answer to me: yes, I did have pine nuts a few days ago, in fact I ate them for two days in a row mixing them with dried blueberries. The combination was sublime the medium term consequence awful. Now, the question stays. Why? Am I allergic to pine nuts? do they release some residual resins as someone was suggesting? Do I have a chemical imbalance? I will see my allergic doctor and hopefully have some more answers to share. Thank you to the genius that was able to make the first connection...

I also bought pine nuts and have been eating them with my tea for the last week. This morning I had egg and cheese and experienced the bitter taste in my mouth. I assumed it was the bread even though it was not expired. Tossed it and then ate the eggs on the side. The bitter taste still permeated through my mouth and so now I am panicky. Every time I try to eat something my taste buds are only experiencing horrible bitter taste. I wonder if Pine nuts do have a certain affect on me. I am realizing after reading these posts that I am alone with this issue. Anyone...how did you get rid of this? No more pine nuts for me for a while.

I haven't eaten pine nuts in weeks and I have this terrible after taste. Can it be from the pine nuts? I can't even drink water and I guess it's great to lose weight because I don't want to eat. The taste of anything I eat is horrible.

How strange! I've had the same symptoms all day as what's described in these posts - a bitter taste in my mouth whenever I eat. And I also had pinenuts 2 days ago for the first time in months. I'm surprised to find out the cause of this so quickly - who would've thought!

Found this on ABC News. Apparently the taste is caused by a new type of Chinese export. Cheap Pine Nuts of a variety that cause this syndrome "Pine Mouth". Stay away from any pine nuts that say Country of Origin: China and you should be fine. However, they cost a whole lot more than the cheap pine nuts from China.

That's funny. I had the bitter mouth taste starting last night when I bit into a piece of pizza. The mushrooms especially tasted really bitter.
Well the taste has lingered with me all day today - and I just remembered. I had Pesto on Sunday, and I am pretty sure there were Pine Nuts in my salad on Tuesday... Since I'm eating on campus - I doubt they're putting expensive pine nuts in Pesto and Spinach Salads...
I just hope this is what it is...

No it doesn't. I work in an organic and natural store and they were sampling organic pinenuts in a spinach salad. It was delicious at the time. I will never eat pine nuts again unless I am trying to lose weight...ugh aweful!

Boy, am I glad I found this website and the info about the pine nuts being the cause of the vilest taste ever in my mouth! I couldn't believe it when I woke up this morning - even the tea tasted so bitter that I thought for a moment somebody had put rat poison in my food and drink. After reading your comments it all made sense. I tried this new recipe with LOADS of pine nuts in it and have been eating the leftovers for 2 days in a row now. Shan't do that again. What made me think though was the fact that it never happened to me before and I've had pine nuts in the past. So I wondered if anybody did what I did and toasted the pine nuts prior to using them in a non stick frying pan? Maybe there is some chemical reaction happening with the nuts and the teflon????? Any ideas?

weird how this is exactly what I experienced...kind of a bitter soap like taste. Got some pine nuts about a week ago, none roasted and that's when it started. I have eaten pine nuts for years but this variety(very short and small..from China) was totally different. Never would have thought this long lasting taste but I have heard that non roasted have a higher amount of volital chemicals similar to turpentine so that might be the reason...only roasted?
