I've had heavy periods since the beginning. I always stayed out of school on the heavy days and didn't participate in sports like I wanted to. As I got older, birth control helped. I stopped birth control to try and conceive with no luck. The periods got heavier. The fertility specialist done the dye test and said I wasn't getting pregnant on my own. My option was invitro. We decided not to have children and are happy with that decision. I was tired of my period taking over my life and didn't like the side effects of birth control pills. My gyn told me about the thermal ablation and I was all for it. He said it destroys the lining of your uterus so you'll need permanent birth control in case I do get pregnant, because I would miscarry. We planned on tying my tubes but he said he would talk to my fertility specialist to see if it was necessary since I wasnt supposed to get pregnant. The fert. spec. said I was NEVER getting pregnant so we didn't tie my tubes. I had the ablation done in Dec 2006. It changed my life. My periods are awesome. I don't need any pain meds and they are very light. They last about 2 days and I probably fill up about a regular size tampon over the whole 2- 3 days. Then in May 2010, surprise, I got pregnant. I miscarried at 7 weeks. So if your thinking of having the thermal ablation done, definately get your tubes tied and don't take no for an answer.

Wow- I cant believe that your doctor let you get the procedure without a perm form of birth control! I am floored. My doctor will ONLY do the procedure on woman that have their tubes tied. He believes that it is too risky to do any other way. I am very happy with my results. No period here at all! I am also very sorry for your loss. Thank you for warning others.
