Treatment

* Anti-itch medicines taken by mouth (antihistamines)
* Moisturizers
* Strong steroid creams or ointments

Do not scratch the blisters. You should avoid frequent bathing and irritating substances, which can make itching worse.

This sounds very similar to my problem. It started about 2 1/2 yrs. ago for me. I use a steriod cream to calm the itching but it doesn't truly go away. The doctors can't really say other than a bad hand dermatitis. For me, I think it stems back to a lip gloss that went bad. I had used it a couple times before I realized it was causing my lip to be itchy and the last time I used it my lip swelled up. I think there was something in it that got in my bloodstream and is now constantly in my body (a parasite???). I have noticed my worst outbreaks seem to be right before my cycles. Hormone fed??? My hands have improved a little bit recently, but I can't completely get rid of it. I wear gloves to wash dishes and clean. I'm also trying to look at what I eat and see if I notice any differences good or bad. For me, I stay away from potatoes. My outbreaks aren't as bad or as often. Just a trial and error basis I discovered this. Grateful for any additional input anyone can give me.

I thought it might be my shingles. I've had that for a couple years and this flares up about when the other does. But sometimes more.

Don't know if this is same thing but  might help:

I've had horrendous itching in fingers and toes - coming from inside, not atopic like contact dermatitis or eczema or anything - for a few years now (in fact one of the first ever symptoms was like a red bump coming from inside on toes then fingers, under my skin, v, painful and sore) and was desperately looking for a cure, and I believe I've found it. My cure seems to be sugar! i.e. avoiding it completely. I also had huge splits on the skin of my fingers which have almost completely healed after just 10 days sugar-free. It's early days so experimenting if have to cut absolutely all sources of sugar or not (e.g. I've had a small amount of fruit). But in the last 10 days I've had absolutely no itching at all!!!!!! Just a little hotness and swelling in the fingers when I eat which dies down after 2h max.

I'm trying to stick to eating a lot of proteins (although I don't digest them well so still have to have carbs), as I find any carbs will set my hands off with swelling, getting really hot, skin getting tight and cracking again. But this is improving every day.I always suspected sugar was the cause (I've been a sugar overeater for >50 years!) but couldn't understand why exercise would set it off too, and so thought it might be more complicated than just one food item. That was a red herring tho, cos exercise merely releases sugar into blood stream from stores in body, e.g. from liver - more research needed by me - but I’m so excited wanted to  too.

Also apparently starvation (I used to go long periods in the day without eating so I could eat more at night) and possibly gall stones - again more research needed - causes the liver to kick out bile salts into blood stream which get into the skin and cause terrible itching. So avoid all added sugar (even in prepack meals) and cut back on any other sources - e.g. honey, fruit, etc - also dairy acts a bit like sugar in body, so cut milk n' cheese too - just for a while to see if it works for you. (Eggs n' butter are fine though.) Also wine, any alcohol would set me off too - has a sugar effect in body.I found choc was SO difficult to give up! but it's been 10 days now - yay!!! I could of course have 100% cocoa as a sub to get over cravings but gone cold turkey. SO worth doing and long may it continue!  Let me know of your experiences if you can. Do you eat a lot of sugar? If you cut it out, does it work for you too?PS I too have bad circulation in hands and feet, v. low blood pressure, so don't know if that's relevant too.

Hi I know exactly what your dealing with!! Been to tons of Doctor's & Dermatalogist they all said Eczema. I was given all sorts of stuff that never really worked so I did my own thing and healed it!! Buy Collogen capsules cotton gloves and Aquaphor!! Aquaphor help it not to burn when touching water the glove help to protect it also the Collogen is your best friend!!! I couldn't stop how good scratching them felt My fingures got so inflamed and raw cause and just burned and made me wish I didn't scratch them to begin with. Then after a few days they'd come dry, hard, stiff, scaly, peeling, and misroble all over again. I seen improvement in the first week BIG INPROVMENT!! I just took the Collogen as the bottle instructed put on Aquaphor after showers when my pores were open from the heat and when ever I felt like it, and use the cotton gloves to keep my hands protected. It all cleared up in 3 weeks completly!! I still take the Collogen just to be safe but I'm back to having my Hand to use and pain free!! So DO IT!!!!!! Stop letting thing be hard to deal with, YOU NEED YOUR HANDS!!

Wow, that is so interesting and remarkable, and fantastic you have found something that works. So just ask for collagen capsules and Aquaphor and cotton gloves. Sounds like heaven!!! I have since found that when my hands start to flare and itch, if I eat eggs, they seem to calm down again. Eggs make me constipated tho, so then I have to take DigestIt, which is a fab colon cleanse, sometimes half a capsule of that cos they is strong! So I wonder if eggs and collagen are related. I wondered if it was liver/gall stones-related cos of cholesterol in eggs. Now I will look into this collagen too. Thanks for your help and telling everybody. :O)

I'm clear today, but don't know when it can start up again. I wonder how many of us are on Cymblata or Lyrica? These 2 both have hives/swelling hands as a side effect....just a thought. Let's all work on this as this is the most miserable thing I've had to deal with for over 2 yrs now, w/ no decent diagnosis or prognosis...exema cream? Don't think so...Michelle Aloha Nui Loa
