Bronchitis and Swollen Throat?!

I have had the exact same thing happen. I was diagnosed with acute bronchitis about 3 weeks ago. Was on ampicillin and a steroid as well, along with an inhaler. I woke up the past two saturdays with phlem stuck in my throat and I felt as though I couldn't breath and was suffocating. My husband thought I was having an asthma attack, but the Dr. said it was my throats natural reaction to "close up" since phlem is going into my windpipe. Now I feel as though my throat is swollen, and I have a numb-like feeling. I am going back to the Dr. this afternoon to get a throat culture done. It is scaring me to go to sleep at night as well, and I feel like my trachea is swollen. I will let you know what they say.

I got a sore throat/cold almost 2 weeks ago and was told almost a week ago that I had bronchitis. Two nights ago I started taking Tussionex so that the coughing would not keep me up. However, both nights that I took it, I woke up at 4am with horrible throat and tongue pain. It is different than the sore throat pain/burning I had with the cold. Am I reacting to the medicine or is this just what happens when you are getting over bronchitis? It hurts to move my tongue or swallow.
