What are the other indications of bumetanide beside hypertension? I mean, why is it different from common antihypertensives like beta blockers are? My husband is 49 and was diagnosed hypertension, but got bumetanide which is diuretic but very potent in blood pressure control. Please tell me something about this medication. Thanks.

My husband is also on bumetanide. This medication is actually prescribed it treatment of moderate hypertension, not severe. But it is also indicated in treatment of oedemas that are caused by renal disease or heart failure. Oedemas are also present in liver diseases. It works by helping in elimination of excessive fluids which indirectly lowers blood pressure. So it does not work directly on blood vessels like beta blockers do and that is the difference.
