What does your cat have to do with a human being losing a kidney? Myself and a relative both had animals get kidney failure after shots or hips go out because the shot masked the pain problem. The relative also experienced kidney failure after a shot in the leg and almost died. They also had to go on dialysis. One cat and one dog died. The other two were permanently crippled for the rest of their lives

You people all sound crazy! Surprised that a 90 year old has kidney disease?....Dah, the kidneys and other organs break down with age, cortisone shots or not. Yes Celebrex and Nsaids do ruin your kidneys over time, but it takes years. The people here who claim one cortisone shot ruined their kidneys are nuts!! Perhaps they had kidney disease and did not know it. (Perhaps an allergic reaction) Why is no one here speaking about their GFR? That is the true measure of kidney failure. My GFR is 32, therefore I am in stage 3 kidney failure--almost stage 4. I used Celebrex for 15 years and it did put me into chronic kidney disease. Along the way, I had a cortisone shot every month or so for two years for my knee which worked wonders and allowed me to have a normal life without surgery until 2014 when I did do the total knee replacement. Do I blame the cortisone shots?, NO! I blame the Celebrex and water pills for my kidney failure. Anyone here who does not take a list of meds to every Dr visit (I keep mine on a computer) with the words.."I am in stage 2 or 3 or 4 kidney failure," at the bottom has only themselves to blame for not advising their Dr. of their condition. This is all about quality of life. Do you want to be a cripple? Ok just whine and be afraid of Cortisone shots! I chose quality of life over fear. Getting my cortisone shot today! (PS if most people went into kidney failure after a cortisone shot, shots would not be on the market).

update: there were ample warnings of the 'death risk' given with these shots and this family member forewent those risks, kidney failure, potassium spiking, fainting or seizure causing her to fall, together or in rapid succession occurred. another factor to consider, i find, is genetics, i have a myriad of issues, and genetic variants incl MTHFR, which i inherited from her, that impede the methylation and sulfuration pathways, and make us more chemically-sensitive, more vulnerable/susceptible than others, to something as powerful/potent (and risky) as cortisol shots.

there are 'safer alternatives to cortisone injections' that even TV doctors advocate. i'd have to dig into my notes but look it up until you find it. i'd not opt for cortisone shots.

Long term nsaids, aspirin included, cause kidney failure as well as cortisone shots.
