Good evening, people. My friend has a personality disorder. He has symptoms, but he is mostly handling them very well. However, I would like to know if this kind of disorder can be followed with a psychotic episode. I would appreciate if someone could tell me something more about this. Thanks.

Hi, there. Personality disorder can be definitely followed by a psychotic episode. Take, for example, my aunt. She has been diagnosed with schizotypal personality disorder. However, from time to time, she can experience brief psychotic episodes. They can last from minutes to hours. However, you should know that if a psychotic episode lasts longer, it can transform into brief psychotic disorder, delusional disorder, schizophrenifrom disorder or even schizophrenia. I hope your friend won’t experience this. Was this helpful? Bye!

Hi, there. I would agree with previous thread. A personality disorder can be followed with a psychotic episode. An acute psychotic episode is the one that lasts less than one month. There are various symptoms that may appear. Delusions and hallucinations are just some of them. Disorganized speech is also possible. Disorganized or even catatonic behavior is another possibility. After an episode, a patient should recover. I hope I’ve helped a little.
