Actually since you think you are a know it all I will correct you. The main reason they want patients to quit before gastric bypass is because smoking affects the healing process and cause ulcerations on the stomach lining. The ironic thing is that after the surgey they have no way of controlling if you smoke or not so it's a moot point. I want to be in charge of my body and what I do or don't do to it. I can respect what you are trying to do for your son. Smoking is an awful habit and I wish I had never started but I did. Sounds like he may grow to resent you and you could he possibly pushing him to do more things I'm sure you would consider worse than smoking cigs. Like drinking underage and smoking pot. Just my opinion. I would rather sign a waiver saying I understand the risk of smoking with the gastric bypass. Maybe if I was not so effing fat I would no be so depressed and would be able to get out and do the things I want but alas I do not. Putting off the surgery because i have to quit is just increasing my anxiety and making me want to smoke more. Either way I will end up in a box. we all will. I have had family die of cancer and it sucks. However I have had family who never smoke or drank a day in their lives and died a horrible painful death of cancer. I guess I just feel like when it's your time to go it's your time to go. I feel like being a smoker people like yourself discriminate again people like myself all the time. I don't drink or do drugs..bit somehow it's ok for people to drink or its more socially acceptable for people to drink. Drinking is just as bad and drinking and then driving kills people.not smoking and driving. It's annoying.

So what if we quit a month ago and the test is to prove we haven't used nicotine in six months? Don't judge and criticize when we work for a job opportunity and can't get it because of something we already fixed. I'm 22. I've smoked lightly for about a year in varying quantities, never what anyone thinks is heavy and often going weeks between, but when I decide to quit, and then a job I've been working towards for years suddenly has a nicotine history test, don't you think it's kind of unreasonable.

HI HEKELE 24 YOU are vary wright on the double standards SMOKING OR DRINKING BEER OR WINE is NOT GOOD at all... BUT that is just my thinking .. some people my say to me to ZIP IT .and that is ok with me ..but if they get real sick from smoking like 20 to 40 years down the road the drink's they will want use the TAX payer to get them over the sick's ..but that is just my way of thinking ..WE can not make all the people happy all the time or even some of the time ..IF the drinkers want to kill them self's and the smokers kill them self's then there is not a lot that we can do .. For those of you that wish to keep smoking as long as possible, I smoke roll ups. I had a urine test on Monday (didn't know they were treating for smoking), was smoking all weekend, had one about 3 hours before and one an hour before. Got a call this morning saying I need to repeat the test because they think I must have been around smokers. I can only assume that the levels are lower from roll ups. Another benefit is that you smoke fewer because you have to make the effort to build your cigarette before you smoke it.
