Today I have been off methadone for 31 days. I do not know if you have stopped already but if not, tapering off very slowly is the way to go. I first starting going down 2mg a week and then when I was on a lower does, I started going down 1mg a week. I have used opiates for so many years and I thought the withdrawals would be as bad as every time I did not have any opiates in the past. It was not!!! It is not easy but you have 4 years on methadone that has helped changed your behaviors as a drug addict; it will really help. Every day you just need to tell yourself that eventually you will feel better and better. As of a few days ago my energy had started to increase. I was sweating pretty bad; so, I would exercise to get the sweat out and take a shower to start my day. That seemed to really help. I would take Advil pm to sleep but it was not very hard to get to sleep at all before I started taking that. The withdrawals of methadone are very mild compared to the withdrawals of other opiates (heroin, oxycontin). The worst part is the lack of energy for me; but, as I said it is getting better. I think about 2 weeks after I stopped I noticed a difference and felt a little better. By a month, you will feel much better. We will both have to see what happens after a month; but, I am sure it is much better....Keep on!!! Every day without it... is a blessing.
