Couldn't find what you looking for?

Fibromyalgia is a common disease in society that will make you tired, depressed and in pain constantly. What if I told you there was a supplement on the market that could improve all of these. Chlorella may be the answer to help solve your fibromyalgia.

When it comes to dealing with your fibromyalgia, you may find yourself climbing an uphill battle to treat the array of symptoms that are associated with this disease. Fibromyalgia is a disease where patients suffer from chronic fibromyalgia fatigue, anxiety, depression and point tenderness and yet physicians are unable to pinpoint exactly what is the cause of this complex disease [1]. Due to this uncertainty of what is going wrong, patients will often leave the doctor's office with a stack of prescriptions for anti-depressants, painkillers, and antipsychotics to help manage these symptoms [2]. Side effects are common with this cocktail of medications so many patients turn to supplements for fibromyalgia to help [3]. I have already covered a number of these other supplements like 5-HTP for a better sleep, SAM-e for beating Depression and NADH for better energy levels in previous articles but there are rumbles in the alternative medicine community that Chlorella can be useful in helping alleviate all these symptoms. Can Chlorella help ease fibromyalgia symptoms and bring about fibromyalgia pain relief? Read more to find out.

What is Chlorella?

When considering supplements for fibromyalgia, a potential treatment option that routinely comes up is a compound called Chlorella. Chances are, you probably have never heard of this compound (don't worry, I didn't either before this article). Chlorella is a single-celled algae that is a common ingredient in dietary supplements as well as an extract added to foods to provide supplemental nutrients. This food is well-received in Asian diets yet has not caught on quite as readily in North American and European markets.[4] This algae is viewed as a wide source of nutrients like chlorophyll, carotenoids, minerals, vitamins and even long-chain polyunsaturated fatty acids. They are also a very rich source of omega-3 fatty acids, a compound that has been linked with improving cardiovascular function and improving patients' cholesterol [5].

As you can see, this compound is crammed with a plethora of vital nutrients and minerals that will make you feel better but can eating this "fish food" really help; can Chlorella help ease fibromyalgia symptoms directly?

Will Chlorella Help Ease Your Fibromyalgia Symptoms?

Studies have been conducting to determine just how effective Chlorella can be as one of the many supplements for fibromyalgiaIn one particular study, 55 patients with fibromyalgia, 33 patients with hypertension and 9 with ulcerative colitis were instructed to consume 10 grams of pure Chlorella in tablet form and take 100 milliliters of a Chlorella energy drink daily for a three month period. At the conclusion of the study, it researchers noted that patients experienced many symptomatic improvements like lower blood pressure, lower serum cholesterol levels, and even fibromyalgia pain relief. [6] Diarrhea associated with ulcerative colitis also improved, another likely symptom in patients that suffer from fibromyalgia.

Further studies put Chlorella to the "ultimate test." Triathletes represent some of the greatest athletes on the planet and their endurance, and raw strength is a testament to the complexity of human physiology. These athletes typically use a number of natural supplements to help boost their energy levels to compete in these tiring events. This particular study was designed to determine if athletes taking Chlorella tablets fared better with the supplement or without it in their events. Each participant consumed the recommended daily dose of Chlorella for a period of one month and then acted as their own controls after a six week period of the athletes being inactive. Researchers found that participants taking daily Chlorella had significantly better energy output levels compared to their results without taking Chlorella tablets. They were able to push themselves harder and workout for longer periods of time. [7

In practice, this may not be a realistic expectation for your typical fibromyalgia patient, which will usually be a female in her mid-40s to 50s who notices fibromyalgic symptoms after periods of inactive [8]. It is unlikely she will be competing in the next ultra-marathon to cycle through her region next year. Nevertheless, these findings indicate that the patient will even be able to improve her energy reserves and try to fight the fatigue and lethargy linked with fibromyalgia. If a patient is able to become more active, she will notice the side effects of exercising like improved sleep, better moods and a higher quality of life [9].

That is the reason why physicians will recommend some aerobic exercise as a supplemental treatment to help rid patients of their fibromyalgia [10]. At this point, the answer to the question "can Chlorella help ease fibromyalgia symptoms?" should be obvious. Yes, it can! Patients who take this supplement for fibromyalgia will not only have more energy but find fibromyalgia pain relief and have better sleeps, so they will feel whole once again.
