Hello, good people. A close friend of mine has been hospitalized. It seems he has esophageal cancer. If I understand well, it is a 4th phase cancer. I must admit that this frightens me. Cana person survive cancer at this stage? What do you think? I will really appreciate any kind of reply.

Hi, there. 4th phase is usually T4 stage. It means that tumor has spread from esophageal wall to nearby tissues. This usually means a serious prognosis. However, this is not enough to give more accurate prognosis. You need also a data whether local lymph nodes are affected. You also need to know if metastases are present. These are the basics of TNM staging of tumors. If local lymphatic nodes are not affected and there are not metastases present, then survival rate is better. I hope this helps.
