There has been the rare occasion when a women can be pregnant and still get a period, mind you i said rare. What do you mean by "coming and going?" If the period is full and strong like previous months, i would say not to worry. If it's maybe sporatic and spotty i would wonder a bit. Give it some more time and just be vigilant of it. If it's a jerky period again or no period at all i would say take an HPT.
Does she remember where she was in her cycle when you two had unprotected sex? If you can narrow it down a little bit, i could help you figure it out.
In the meantime, it's probably not a bad idea to look into getting some birth control. Check out your local Planned Parenthood. If you had sex 2 weeks after her last period, that may have been when she was ovulating, that's not good. A women usually begins ovulation about 14 days after the FIRST day of her last period, which would put gf somewhere in the vicinity. Ejaculate can also survive in the female body for a few days after, meaning that live sperm is still alive and well and basically waiting for an egg to be released.
You say she bled for one day, she may have experienced some implantation bleeding. This is the process in which the fertilized ovum (egg) attaches itself to the uterus (womb) and gestation begins. (growing) meaning she may, (i said may) be pregnant.
What kind of symptoms is she having? Are her breasts tender, more so around the nipple? Is she upset to her stomach? Is she tired more so than usual? Has her appetite increased? Have her moods shifted (sometimes for the worse) Does she pee a lot more then usual? Does she notice any kind of non offensive discharge? When you say she bled for 1 day, was it all day or was it a short time then gone? Did it return the next day?
Check with her and get back to us, we can figure it out together.
