My son was diagnosed with Wegener's almost 7 years ago. Today my other son was also diagnosed. We begin the journey again. We were told it is not hereditary. The doctor now told us today they want to test the whole family. Now everyone is scared.

I lost my mother when she was 32. She was also diabetic and I just learned of this. I had no idea she had WG too. My older brother and I are both in our 30s and have both suffered from an autoimmune disease and I'm wondering what to do now. Prayers to all of you.

I have autoimmune disease. I have Graves. Quite frankly this discussion has raised concern. I have many of the unexplained non Graves related symptoms of this disease from the sinus, ears, lungs, kidneys, even protein in the urine. I have the same deformed kidneys as my dad's side. May Aunt had this horrifying disease. I'm armed with information. Researching more. Learning. Interesting that several people have found a link that is hereditary. The expert articles I've read said that's inconclusive. Clearly people are telling the truth.

I'm pretty sure the twin mentioned with this disease in the previous statement was my grandfather. He had Wegener's disease and his identical twin did not. I hope this means it's not hereditary, because I worry about the same thing.

Both my Mom and her sister died 1 year apart in the early 90's. Their father in the late 1940s died of a "kidney issue" Just found out my cousin from another Aunt has been diagnosed. She is 50 years old. Personally, I don't rule out genetics.
