I don't believe you can get a period while pregnant. A period consists of your uterine lining shedding. When you're pregnant, your lining thickens to allow the embryo to attach. If this lining was shedding, the baby would be coming out with it.
It is, however, possible to bleed during pregnancy. When I was pregnant, I bled from the time I found out to the time I miscarried. All in all I bled for about 2 months. My bleeding was coming from a subchorionic hemorrhage. I'm not sure how to explain it.
