Hi, my seven years old son just recovered from chickenpox. The course of illness was particularly hard and the chickenpox left scars on my son's left cheek. They don't look very nice. Will the scars remain permanent? I was wondering if there is something I could do to make the scars heal?

Hi, when I was your son's age I too had a very severe case of chickenpox. I don't remember everything about it, but I swear that I remember the pain and the itching that wouldn't go away. Like your son, I also have some scars left after the chickenpox. Mine are on the forehead. There is one larger scar that is noticeable and a smaller one that only I can see if I really look into the mirror. However, right after the illness I had few other scars that faded away. I suppose that the scars remained at the spot of the really big sores. So you should talk to your son's doctor about some kind of ointment that might help him with the scars. I am sure that most of them will go away. And even if one or two scars remain, it is not such a big deal, because they will not look the way you see them now, but will diminish. I got used to mine and they didn't represent any problem later in my life. So don't worry, your son will be just fine.
