After taking a Chinese erection pill Nangen Zengzhangsu, marketed as the sure shot therapy for enhancing sexual functioning, three Australian citizens have ended up in hospital.

After these incidents, the Health Department re-issued a warning in which it said that these pills could lead to a diabetic coma, permanent brain injury or death. It is believed that at least one of the patients have been in a serious condition after taking the pills.

It is believed that this medication, also known as Nangen, has been imported from Asia or sourced from the Internet. It was available for 10 dollars a pill on a UK website and marketed as 100 % herbal, but contains ingredients like donkey kidney and deer antler.

Nangen has been claimed to be a natural alternative to Viagra with no side effects, however it has been found to contain Glibenclamide, a prescription medication used to treat diabetes.

The side effects the three patients experienced were shaking, confusion, dizziness, and low blood sugar.

Doctors warn that public should not take such medicines. Anyone who has taken this product and developed any of the symptoms mentioned should seek urgent medical attention.

I don't see how a diabetic medication can be used to treat erectile dysfunction in people who are not diabetics. This is important information indeed. Good job, Lori.
