So I've been going through the same thing. And I found the answer from another discussion board and I thought I'd share it here. There's a reason why the doctors haven't heard about this. First of all, does it only happen when you're using a tampon? Apparently, when you don't apply the tampon properly so it's not inserted deep enough, when you urinate, the tampon soaks on the urine. You can know this for certain by smelling what you think is a clear fluid discharge. If it smells like urine, then it's not discharge. This was true for me.

Don't worry, I have the very same situation and also noticed an antiseptic-type odor. It's not a bad smell, just odd.

I'll bet you're exactly right. I also have fibroids, and from what you and others have said - including the odd antiseptic odor that frankly reminded me of amniotic fluid - I'll bet they're causing the fluid that doctors can't (or don't bother to) figure out. My experience has been remarkably similar. Thanks for sharing your story!

I have a couple of guesses. I have the same problem. I believe it to be cystic fluid from ovarian cysts or intravenous at fluid left over from endometriosis. The endometrial tissue leaves this behind after internal blood is tea sorbet. Neither are lif threatening. Sometimes, my bladder also leaks from the pressure placed on it during bloating. Hope this helps.

I'm thirteen and am going through this issue. I think it may be linked to anaemia (lack of red blood cells) which would explain. I generally don't experience this but after a heavy flow the blood is slightly clearer. If your flow has been heavy it's probably just your body adjusting.
This was an educated guess if there are any better answers feel free to prove me wrong,
Oh you can take multi vitamins, iron pills and increase the meat consumption to help with this.

I thought that too, so I decided to wear a pad instead of a tampon to see if it changed the results and it didn't I still have a clear fluid

I've been battling this for 4+ years. Had an ultrasound and an exploratory D&C. Seemed to be better for a couple months after the uterine lavage but then went right back.
I also have an acidic odor and it makes me paranoid all through my period. 2 ob-gyns and still no answers.
Would love to hear if anyone figures anything out!

Sounds like this is rather common but it's strange that doctors don't know what it is. I'm 40, I have PCOS, and this is the first time I have ever experienced this. Same story as most women described. You think you've bled through your tampon and it's clear liquid, definitely not urine. I don't know if any of the following issues are related but I'm currently in an autoimmune flare, which affected my liver, gallbladder may be affected (waiting on tests), and my liver was unable to break down estrogen, so I had about a month or so of extremely excess estrogen. I think my hormones are back to normal now because (I think) my period has returned but it's mostly this clear fluid, no odor, just blood-tinged and soaks a tampon quickly. Also for the past week, I've been feeling what I THOUGHT was nerve pain related to my autoimmune flare, but now that this has happened, I realize that "nerve pain" was actually fluid dripping into the pelvic cavity from a ruptured cyst. I am still feeling this warmth/heat sensation in my groin and sometimes it feels like hot liquid is running down my leg. (I'm not peeing my pants, I checked.) At first I attributed it to a sciatic nerve irritation. But I remember a long time ago when I had a large cyst that burst, I felt a similar "hot fluid running down my leg" sensation and my GYN said it was that fluid dripping down. At any rate I think many of us are on the right track and this is very likely fluid from a large ovarian cyst that has burst. I hope that's all it is. Best wishes for your health and mine!

KMC again. I was reading through more pages of this thread and I think one person had a very simple explanation that may be the answer for a lot of women. Entrapped bath water?? I did take a bath yesterday and maybe the water had been trapped for a day. They always say the simplest answer is usually the right answer. Or that may be the answer for some of the younger girls, but us women over 40 may have a hormonal component. I wish the people trying to school us on "egg white" fertile mucus would shut up. I think most of us over 40 know the difference between fertile mucus and clear watery fluid soaking a tampon. We're not 10. Anyway, the bath water is a good possibility but since I have all this hormonal stuff going on, I'll be back to update. I just had my estrogen and other hormones checked this morning so I'll let you know if anything is off.
