It can't be the tampon. I'm 17 and this just started today, super freaked out, but I have never used a tampon. My mom was too scared of tss to allow me to use them.

This might make sense! I took a bath last night, with that exact kind of tampon in, and didn't change the tampon, but went straight to bed. It doesn't really seem possible for it to soak up and release the water like that. BUT it is the first time I'm done that, and it's the first time I've had that water discharge problem. So maybe...

This also happens to me, it doesn't happen every time I have my period which makes me even more confused.

Hi! I think I may have found your guys' answer! I recently started the same problem. A little back story quick - I have one child (only one pregnancy - no abortions or miscarriages), I'm 22 years old this year, and I had my daughter in December 2012 followed by the depo shot for over a year, then a break off of it, then back on it in 2014 and never went back last March (2015) to get another shot (so finally a year without depo).
I have chalked this up to be nothing more than your cervix trying to lubricate your vagina enough to push out your tampon. Doctors like to think more scientifically about problems, and it's quite common sense that if your body can't produce enough blood to get the tampon out, it'll do it itself and secrete extra fluids to push it out. Thinking logically, it totally makes sense, it's a foreign object that doesn't naturally belong in there and your body knows that and will do what it needs to in order to have (what your body may think as dangerous) it out. On lighter period days, your cervix needs more lubrication, as to heavier days, it wouldn't need to secrete any extra fluids. Just wanted to chime in and ease everybody's minds :) happy Easter!

After reading thru all the posts, I'm thinking its ovarian fluid. Most women have had ovarian fibroids, cysts and POSD diagnosed. I've had this myself and it always seems to have a "hormonal" smell like iron rich or metallic. I also had irregular periods. Had a hard delivery, and my Mom has had cysts, periods problems and even had a doctor tell her she was allergic to her bodies own progesterone. Hmm I may just be sensitive, but I would hope some doctors could smarten up and guide more women into a rational place instead of saying they've never heard of such things. Frustrates me when they say that. Well, hope I can get off the tampons and onto diva cups, sponges and cloth pads so I avoid any synthetic fibers while I moon. It seems my body has the sensitive gene.

That's somewhat logical, but most women I've read on the forum have had cysts. And my clear fluid personally has an iron smell, or metallic. Could be from ovaries? I'm asking my doctor tomorrow and getting an ultrasound I hope to determine if I have cysts.

this whole thing isnt being helpful at all cause it seems like everyone that commenting are people who are having this issue. i havent had my period and im 15 but this fluid thats clear is constantly showing up in my underwear soaking them and its not discharge cause its not thick and it doesnt smell like it.

I too have been having the same issue. I'm approaching my 50th birthday. It has been going on about a year and a half. I am going through menopause and I don't have many periods anymore. I go as long as 6 months without. I figured it had something to do with menopause. Reading everyone's comments, I guess not.

My Daughter is 12 just happened to her, she has not menstruated yet, my theory is this happens with hormone levels. For my daughter premenstrual.....

I'm going through the sane thing! I'm a teenager, but anyway I never thought it was my period at first so I just blew it off and forgot to mark it. So now its on time and I get no red blood for periods for a long time. I always get nervous when I don't know if its going to be clear or red. I'm glad to know I'm not the only one. I hope we all find out what it means soon.

Same thing happened to me, and the first time it has ever occurred. Thought I bled through my tampon, went to check and only 1/4 was filled with blood, the rest a clear (non-smelling) liquid, which soaked through my underwear and gym pants. No fever, normal period pain/discomfort.
29, married (monogomous-relationship), always get my annual OB/GYN exam (everything is normal), never had STIs, healthy and active.
Called OB/GYN and they said it was normal, it could be cervical mucus and a one-off. If it occurs again (with my next period) then I should get checked out. If I had a fever, in severe pain or foul-smelling then it should be checked out immediately.
