I am seven months pregnant and recently I have noticed that my urine is darker then it usually is. I went to my doctor and he took a sample of it. I am still waiting for the results but till then I would like to know if this presents a risk to my baby? What causes this, should I drink more water or cranberry juice?

It is said that urine should be clear at least once a day. Maybe this is not so accurate but cloudy urine with absence of symptoms of an infection is generally of no consequence. Every pregnant woman should drink about half a gallon of fluids every day and this should help dilute and clear up the urine. Drinking cranberry juice acidifies the urine and it is helpful in preventing urinary tract infections. But I am not sure if it would help you, because you still don't have the results and you still don't know what your condition is. Urinary tract infection like yeast infection has the symptoms like odorless, white vaginal discharge, itchiness, irritation and the redness of the vagina and labia, burning during urination and pain during intercourse. You don't have to be worried that the yeast infection will hurt your baby. However, the baby can be infected during labor, passing through the birth canal. This condition is called thrush and it is not serious. Also, it is easily treated. I hope that your results will be ok. Good luck!

I once heard my doctor said: “Urine should be clear “. This is an inaccurate saying I think A Cloudy urine in the absence of symptoms generally has no consequence. Try drinking cranberry juice. It acidifies the urine and would be helpful in preventing urinary tract infection. If there are no symptoms of urinary infection, and there is no significant amount of protein in the urine, I would not worry about this.
