I think that you're referring to cognitive behavioral therapy, am I right? CBT refers to when you analyze your thought patterns to improve your reactions to them to help yourself with depression or anxiety. What you do is you have thought A plus the emotional reaction B and the C is your conclusion. If you are looking to improve your mental processes (so to speak) then you would go further and take D as your analysis of the conclusion, E as the new reasoning, and F as your new conclusion. It is really effective!
