Hi, I am interested to know what is the difference between using coumadin and Plavix for treating clotting disorders? Why some get Coumadin and some Plavix?

A buildup of cholesterol and some other fats in the walls of our blood vessels, can be harmful if plaque detaches in vital organs like heart and brain. This plaque can restrict the flow of oxygen-rich blood, even before detaching and increase blood pressure. When plaque eventually ruptures, platelets stick together and form a clot. Coumadin and Plavix prevent platelets to stick together. Plavix, just like aspirin, is effective in treating arterial clots so it is mostly prescribed in risk of stroke, heart attack, peripheral arterial disease, whereas coumadin is effective in treating venous clots deep vein thrombosis or pulmonary embolism.

That's not a real answer. Plavix works much later in the clotting cascade, Coumadin starts at the beginning.
