I have been on Coumadin for 6 years and have gained a considerable amount of weight. Of course, my doctor has said this is not a side effect but it is NOT true. I have gone up 2 sizes and this is so distressing that I want to discontinue taking this medicine. I know you should not stop without a doctor's approval but I do not want to be a short, fat woman.

Hi,the thing is if they lying or hiding weight gain as side effect, what else are they hiding not telling us? I don't weigh myself as don't need to, my weight always stays the same. I only found out how much gained coz had weigh the dog,my weight minus full weight dog I together, I thought scales broken made everyone weigh themselves. Mortified how much I weigh I don't put weight on like that, nothing has changed has be warfarin. Life death over weight as some comments being made. What though other dangers risks are we putting ourselves in at hands of these so called experts?

Iv had several cases uveitis never ever had before one after other scary my eyesight not same now, swollen knee and get swollen ankles, tired some days more than others, depressed angry at times emotional fed up. Weight gain damn headaches, dizziness, faint feelings, occasions palpitations. Having full facts is better than not. Besides how do we really know specialists and medication is right way to go, and they know best?? We trust to easily. So glad I found this site.and not alone

I taking warfarin coz had trouble breathing coughing thought had virus was feeling very ill,but couldnt work out what was not felt before, then thought that turned to chest infection and thought my asthma bad, then my hand went blue, next thing in hospital poked stabbed needles shoved under machines was so Il couldn't object, doc found heart murmer they all confused, had lung blood heart team around my bed couple days trying get bottom it as to Young and ap rare for and to have upper clot, they think came from heart went down arm,my main artery now not working that arm perhaps it never did work?always had problem doc finding pulse.rheumatologist ruled out immune disorders&said shud be off warfarin cud b nothing, blood specialist said faulty valve, cardiologist said same so years later still on warfarin getting downloads on implanted loop recorder, so far only occasion to slow heartbeat&1fast&slight fault valve.that ap lots people have. Nothing else showing. 6-12months was meant b on warfarin for, now I'm stone heavier, can see cellulite bigger legs thighs and upper parts . not like I pig out far from it disaster the whole bloody thing. No answers from specialists no one seem know why hand went blue, I'm wondering what full damage this medicine doing to me. I def look different in face drier skin despite creams esp my face I look old uglier

I put on over ten pounds over time and started to lose a bit (restructed all sugars). So I list 4 pounds. Then the amiunt (dose) of coumidin was upped and guess what, weight gain 5 plus pounds. There is definitely a link between the amount if coumidin and weiggt gain for some people not for others.

Sorry for spelling errors...pinky typed. So I will try again: I put on over ten pounds of weight over time since I began coumidin. I went on a restrictive diet of no sugar. I lost 4 pounds. My coumidin dose was increased and bam!. Put back 4 pounds plus 1.5... There has to be a definite link between coumidin and weight gain for some people. I'm one. My mother was on coumidin after strokes but she didn't gain weight. Mind you, if she ate a chicken wing, that was a lot. I'm really upset. Very frustrated. Coumidin is not revealing the truth.

Your comments will be added to my validation findings one year ago. It’s a fact that those on Coumadin/Warfarin will gain weight. You can counter the weight gain by reducing your food intake, as well as your carbohydrate intake. I reduced each intake by a half 1 year ago, and was able to bring down the extra 36 pounds I gained over 5 year period. In that way I was able to drop 27 pounds. It is very difficult to do however, I will continue with this diet in order to eliminate the remaining 9 pounds. In sum, one need to reduce food intake and carbohydrates by at least a half to effectively counter the weight gain effects of Coumadin.
