I've thought this for years, I've been taking Coumadin for 23 years now, and in all that time I have gained like 50lbs. I realize I could have just gained some weight over the years just aging, but I'm not a big eater, and I errdo try to watch, and I'm always doing something, I'm not a lazy person, so I have researched this to find others like myself!!!

That does not surprise me at all; by the 3rd month you would have gained approx. 36 lbs.

I have been taking Warfarin for 6 weeks and have gained 8 pounds. My eating habits haven't changed that much. I eat my salads using iceberg lettuce. I don't eat much red meat. My pork chops are always baked. My portions are small because I don't have much of an appetite.

Really? Just walk it off? I had two bilateral PEs within a day of each other and a third on Xarelto. While I feel for you that you’ve had multiple TIAs (I am an RN) your LUNGS were not damaged. Mine have been damaged so badly that it’s two months out and I still can’t climb one flight of stairs. The gym isn’t even a possibility, so I beg to differ. It is THAT hard. I have gained 25 pounds in six weeks from Coumadin. That’s the only thing that could cause this gain and redistribution of weight around my stomach (formerly flat and taut) and hips. If you came here to find out the side effects, hoping that weight gain is one of them, you’ve hit the jackpot for gaining weight.

I’m so glad to hear this! I have two more months left before my next CT to find out if multiple PEs are dissolved and if I can stop taking it. I have gained 25 pounds in six weeks and am devastated. I had to go buy new clothes in a size bigger for business travel and my face, hands and feet are puffy. This is awful, but not as awful as losing my life to another PE.

The weight gain for me was an issue but the larger issue were the debilitating headaches, weakness and fatigue. All of which my doctor said were not related to warfarin. Yet this all disappeared when I discontinued use.

Doctors and Big Pharma agree that blood thinners may cause you to feel fatigue, weakness, and chills. However, they won’t admit that the medication is associated with weight gain.

Are you taking something instead? I am gaining in the stomach 5 lbs in several weeks and so uncomfortable. Same eating, more exercise so it’s not that.
