I don't know where to start...We don't take warfarin/coumadin bc of a vitamin deficiency! We mostly take due to DVT or heart problems. I got DVT 4 months ago due to birth control pill. I was skinny, very healthy, vegetarian, used go to gym 3/4 times a day. After 4 months, my face looks puffy. I definitely gained weight. I never scale so i dont know how much weight i gained but i look different. I can't recognize my body. And i feel tired all the time. Most of us can't go to gym as we have DVT so saying "go to gym" is the stupidest thing ever! I walk and do pushups and pullups but still i can't lose the weight. It is not much so i am glad but still as being a skinny person, i feel weird. I will stop this horrible pill in 2 months even if my DVT doesn't dissolve. My healing goes great thanks to vegetarian eating so i think i will be fine without it.

Thank you so much for your encouraging words. I'm a "lifer", which means I have had 2 PE episodes, so I will have to take it for the rest of my life. I've been on it since 2005. I found an article on the web & decide to experiment with my diet. I found something amazing. Coumadin is protein binding, meaning if you have a high protein diet (atkins, paleo, etc), it will make your Coumadin useless, so the dose will have to increase. This will lead to even more weight gain. I've been vegetarian for almost 27 years, and since taking Coumadin only gain weight when I increase fat, sugar, and protein.
I went on a paleo diet and gained weight. Yep, I left being veg, and it was gross, so I stopped after 3 mos. Now I've got to get rid of extra weight, and being veg again will do that. When my protein is low and I eat fewer green veggies, my needed dose of Coumadin goes down, so, I just structure my diet to take only enough to keep me alive.
My experiment was successful, and now that I've cut out gluten, I'm starting to lose the extra pounds. Since everyone is different, I would say to anyone interested in this to try experimenting with your diet to see what triggers the Coumadin to pack on the pounds. I know first hand that Coumadin will cause weight gain in me when I increase fat and protein. Let us all be "scientists" and search for the answers our so-called Dr.'s won't provide.
Here is the article that led to my experiment: http://www.impactteam.info/documents/Warfarinpthandout_000.pdf

I never searched for the topic because I believed it all to be my own fault--now i'm wondering if this is partially to blame. I just began Xarelto yesterday, so hopefully I see some of the changes everyone else sees. I thought the weight gain was the culprit to my lethargy, achy joints, etc but seeing people who are a healthy weight complaining of the same issues makes me tentatively optimistic that once I have this terrible med out of my system, I will start to feel human again!!
I'm a lifer, too, and my MD let me change to Xarelto. Might be worth looking into if you can't stand how the coumadin makes you feel, and you, like me, are tired of all the blood work (though i will miss my girls at the lab!).
I'll try to remember to report back in a month or so to see if I've noticed any change!
