We live in Brisbane, Australia. So some medications and or measurements are in our medical terminology.
In Dec 2010 my husband went to hospital with a massive headache. (I would at this point like to mention that he had never been sick) except for what I called grumpy old man issues. (Hes 63)
As I mentioned he was in hospital and after a couple of hours was diagnosed with a pituitary tumour.
To cut a long story short, he has had his tumour removed (60%) and put on medication.
Cortisol levels were well over 5000.
He was also at this time diagnosed with type 2 Diabeties. ( to be treated with injections)
A year later he had 28 days of radiation and as the pills had stopped working he was approved for a new American injection taken twice a day. This worked for about 6 months but we were told to stop as it was killing his liver. (Cortisol levels now 260)
The cortisol levels then rose to up over 600.
So it was decided to have a double adrenalectomy through his back. A Laparoscopy. It took over 9 hours. He was only in hospital for about a week.
He's now on Steroids. You would think all should be well almost. Nope!!!!
Blood tests last week show he has high Cortisol levels of over 480. Very High blood pressure. Abnormal cells in his liver and other tests are telling the Endicrine team that he has Tumours elsewhere in his body.
( I would at this time like to mention that my husband is quite slim weighs under 69 kilos and still Losing weight and the only signs he has Cushings is his puffy face and large belly.
We also forgot to ask the Endicrine team should he be taking Steroods if his body is still producing Cortisol. ????
If anyone else (prefer a male , as ladies have different symtems) has this problem we would like to hear from you. Thank you.
