I am laying here in the hospital bed at 4:19 in the morning after my l5 s1 fusion. The doctor said it went great! So far I have pain in my operAtive site. Nothing in my legs. That pain is gone. But as from future posts I know that's to come. (nerves) the logrolling is painfull and sitting for any length of time is as well. My big problem is my heart rate! It is at 40 and 45. Scary very scary. And of course I come to my room from surgery and get a new novice nurse! She stops and removes my delotten pump! So I have nothing for pain! She says that they will administer them every 2 hours. I got one dose! So the new nurse came on and she put it back on with morphine. Still doesn't take away the pain just the edge. I have been up walking not by my choice but the anestesiaologist had them remove the catheter. In the recovery area although I was numb still and had no bladder function. My doctor has no idea of all this. As far as the fusion the nerve pain in my butt and leg is gone. I just wish my <3 rate would stabilize and I could sleep.

pain medicine will lower ur heart rate which is scary. but that is why they took u off the drip and r now giving it to u by ur IV u r still going to be in pain the medicine will only make the pain alittle bit more manageable. they r trying to get u up to walk because the risk of blood clots and pneumonia. plus that faster u get up and walk the easyer the recovery time will be and the faster u can go home. I know this is hard because u r in pain and all u want to do is sleep and u don't want to do anything that will cause u pain. I have never had back surgery but I have had 16 surgeries with 8 of them being major surgery.

Thank u Angela for replying. They have stated that the dalotten should be out of my system and that's what they thought was lowering my heart rate. They have me on a heart monitor like a EKG and are calling in a heart specialist. And your right I very scared!
