Hello! I know that nonoxynal-9 is used for making condoms but I would like to know what it is. Why are some people saying that it is not safe and that it shouldn’t be used at all. How does one know if a condom contains this nonoxynal-9 or not? Thank you for the information!

Everything you need to know about condoms is written on a condom or on a condom box. You always have to check inspiring date, if it is lubricated and if it has been tested. Nonoxynol-9 is a sperm-killing chemical. It has been shown to irritate mucosal linings, which may possibly facilitate HIV infection and this is why many people are against it in condoms. It also doesn’t protect against diseases like gonorrhoea or Chlamydia. However, it is also said that nonoxynal-9 condom is better than no condom at all.
