I was actually prescribed Depo Provera as a cure for ovarian cysts. I am now 42 years old, had horrid, debilitating periods before, and ultrasound diagnosed them. Depo seemed a life saver until I lost my job 2 years ago. I continued the shot until I needed the money to feed my family instead. I was ok for the first year, but now am experiencing horrible sciatica pain and pelvic pain. I have been on and off Depo for almost 20 years. My first hearing of a "dexascan" was 3 years ago, after 17 years. You would think someone would have mentioned it by now. I am terrified of Osteo, but am more scared of sepsis from a burst cyst with no insurance now. I have experienced weight gain, some depression, and anxiety related to elevated heart rate, but the beta blocker to lower my heart rate to 87 took care of the scary heart racing anxiety. I really want to know if I'm going to end up with osteoporosis at the ripe old age of 43, and since my sciatica has started back up again, if the trade off is worth it. Ovarian cysts my size let me know at 23 I wouldn't have a family. I have a family with my husband and therapy dogs now, I just want to know if I'm going to be able to be around to enjoy them. I'm also thinking of starting back up since I'm in pain without it. Any thoughts?

Hello my name is Megan. I am looking into filing a class action lawsuit against the company that makes the Depo Birth control shot. I need you women out there that have had and are still having some or all of the same symtoms I have had and am still having since taking the depo to please contact me with your names and numbers, incase an attorney needs to contact you. Lets stand together and make a difference so no more women have to go through the same thingswe are, at least not without it being a part of the warning label. From my research, there is nothing on the warning side effects stating you may get ovarian cysts, It says that depo will help with destroying the cysts not giving them to you. But from my story and alot of the ones I have read on here, I am not the only one that has in fact GOTTEN cysts after taking the depo. Reply to my post.

This is just a little of what has been going on with me, if your situation is similar and you want to join me in filing this lawsuit, to get the compensation we deserve for having to go through this, and to stop other women from having to go through the same thing, then please do not hesitate to contact me. THANK YOU!!
I am 21 years old and was diagnosed with polycystic ovarian syndrome, a while back. I was put on the depo birth control shot when I was a teenager to try and regulate my periods, needless to say it made it much much worse, I only recieved 3 of the shots before telling my doctor I no longer would take it. I have my period EVERY SINGLE DAY for 1 1/2 years STRAIGHT!!! Since then, I have have numerous emergency room visits due to excruciating pain in my lower sto mach, and by this I mean I couldnt move, and all I could do was cry because of how bad it hurt. The first visit to the ER, they told me I had produced eggs that were to large so they ruptured, they gave me pains meds and sent me home. But the next day after they had re-reviewed my ultrasounds, I got a phone call from the doctor at the hospital saying that I had Numerous cysts on my right ovary that were rupturing, it wasnt my eggs. I was told to follow up with my family doctor, so I did, but she automatically told me that because of the amount of cysts I had I could NEVER have children. I was devasted, but looked into seeing a fertility specialist to have futher testing done. When I went to the specialist he performed 2 more ultrasounds, one external and one internal... at that time I had 48 cysts on my right ovary and he stopped counting at 35 on my left ovary. He said because my periods are so irregular and the amount of cysts I have, my chances of getting pregnant on my own are very very slim. He said that I only ovulate once every 3-6 months and will never really know when it is. So in order for me to get pregnant I have to try it through invitro, and that may not even work for me. And i want kids. About a month or so after seeing the specialist I started having the same excruciating pains again, so I went back to the hospital, they gave me an IV with morphine and it didnt help at all, so they gave me something stronger and that barely even took any of the pain away. The doctor at the hospital toldmethe only way tostop this from happening is to have a historectomy done and I refuse to do that, especially since I was only 19 at that time.

I was on the depo shot since i was 16 . I stoppped getting the shot when i was 22. When i stopped getting the shots about 2 months later i started to get very bad lower stomach pains. i went to the emergency room several times and they couldnt figure out what it was so finally they told me to go to an OB doctor. when i did go they scheduled me for an ultrasound and when i went back for my follow up they told me I had a very large mass on my left ovary and a small one on my right. I asked for a pregnancy test becuase i didnt get a menstrual and the nurse told me no i was probably stressed. Which i wasnt. The one on my left was estimated at 12-16 inches and needed to be removed. When i went back 2 weeks later for another follow up i found out i was 3 weeks pregnant. the female doctor was so rude when she seen that i was she told me that se had to do the surgery and was goig to make an incision down the center of my stomach and i wuld just have to get rid of the baby becuase it was just a fetus. My answer was no and one of the residents was so upset at her approach she called one of the high risk doctors several times and begged him to see me. He said no the first couple times because he said it seemed inpossibile to do it while it was pregnant. Then finally he said yes and when i went to so see him he said dont worry i can do it and you will be able to keep the baby. He performed the laproscopic surgery on me while i was 20 weeks pregnant and everything went fine he even delivered my some 5 months later. He doesnt deliver babies anymore since then he know only does specialty procedures like that at Metrohealth Hospital. Dr. Pollard. But in my opinion depo caused the cyst.

I originally went on depo to decrease the size of my ovarian cysts. I was in excruciating pain and the US revealed very large cysts. Depo took care of that, and over the last 15-20 years, I've been ok. I lost my job 4 years ago, and when the depo ran out, the pain came back, I was a not very nice person. I was a little bit cranky (no,rabid), which is what that does, but I was also a complete b***h. I got a new job after about a year and a half, and the shot made it ok. The pain went away again, as well as the murderous b***h I had become. It was me in pain all the time that made me mean. It hurt like hell and my hormones were going crazy. Now I'm ok. I do know I need to worry about calcium, but being nice to people is way higher on my list of priorities. I'm ok with Depo, but it's affects effect everyone differently.
