Hi everyone! I am new here and hoping that this site will be as informative for me as it looks to be at first sight. I have come here to ask some questions about diabetes. In fact, I heard that diabetic ketoacidosis can be the first sign someone has diabetes, and that it is caused by metabolic acidosis. Can anyone tell me what metabolic acidosis is?

Without going into too much scientific language, I can tell you that metabolic acidosis is caused by ketone bodies which have Low Ph levels, and they turn a person's blood acidic. For a person with diabetes (Normally type I though it can happen to type II patients as well) if this condition is left untreated, it will lead to diabetic coma.
