Hi, my grandmother heard of condition called WPW (wolf parkinson white), and since she suffers from tachyarrhythmias she is very afraid of it. How serious is this condition and what is it’s incidence?

Wolff-Parkinson-White syndrome (WPW) is a syndrome of pre-excitation of the ventricles due to an abnormal accessory pathway. If electrical impulses are conducted through this accesory pathway, also called Bundle of Kent, electical impulse stimulates ventricles before regular impulse. The incidence is between 0.1 and 3 % of the general population. The condition may stay unnoticed for life-time because of being asymptomatic, but risk for sudden death is increased. The accessory pathway may provoke on tachyarrhythmias in these individuals, which could become reason of death. Incidence for fatal outcome of WPW is very small.
