I don't really think that it undermines the doctor-patient relationship unless the patient or the doctor misunderstands the other. I think that because doctors are unable to meet with patients for as long as they'd like to that it's beneficial for patients to have so much information at hand. But it is still the doctor's responsibility to explain to patients their diagnosis as much as possible as well as why they are getting their medication.
