I am interested in if drug dipentum contains olsalazine sodium as active ingredient. Is olsalazine sodium similar to mesalamine? I was treated with mesalamine because of intestinal inflammatory disease. What does dipentum contain? First I thought that it was chrons disease, but fortunately it didnt, it was just mild ulcerative colitis. Im prescribed with dipentum now.

Dipentum contains olsalazine sodium as its active ingredient. Olsalazine is actually inactive by itself, but bacteria in the colon convert it in active metabolite mesalamine. It has local effect in intestines and very little is absorbed. I also had moderate form of ulcerative colitis and was on dipentum for about 2-3 months. It was 2 years ago, and it healed completely.
