I am 20 years old and in relatively good shape, but for the past couple of weeks when I go to the bathroom I have stringy stool that sometimes has blood on it and on the paper. I rarely feel any discomfort or pain or any other symptoms. Should I wait this out for a couple more weeks or go see a doctor immediately? What could it be?

You rarely feel some discomfort and pain, but you still do?

Look guys, whenever you feel any kind of pain, you need to react soon.

You don't have just stringy stool but you are also dealing with some blood and that is not a good sign. Anyway, blood in your stool is one of condition that really needs your attention.

Numerous of reasons can be the cause. My good friend had really similar symptoms and he was diagnosed with ulcerative colitis and that is one of the forms of inflammatory bowel disease. It is marked by inflammation of the large intestine. It always involves the end of the large intestine. It is not that dangerous and it can be healed with certain medications, but if you leave it untreated, it can become worse.
