My husband has now had two surgeries, numerous antibotics, which none of them worked, tested for throat and sinus cancer from ecoli. Nothing has worked and the ENT just gave up and told him to see his primary doctor where he first started. We begged for them to do a biopsy on his throat because of the inflamation, but were ignored. He has been reassured by three doctors so far that this is not cancer, but they don't seem to know how to treat it. Antibotics just seem to lower his immune system. Now they seem to think the irritation and blisters in his throat is acid reflux and is scheduled for an upper GI. This still doesn't releave the pain and infections that just won't go away in his sinuses. His only relief is flushing with saline 4 - 6 six times a day and the biggest relief is to boil garlic and breathe in the steam. We don't see much in the future as to getting rid of this altogether. I wish you better luck than we've had.

Luckily I do not have an issue with odor, but I do not have a sense of smell or taste. I can tell if food is hot, cold, salty, or sweet, but can not taste chocolate, banana, all foods. I know if the food does not taste nasty. I can not even taste a lemon. :(
I have been on every antibiotics that are sold, I have even been on compounds that the Dr. sends in the RX to a company and they send it to me over night....it has to be refrigerated and I have to use a little vaporizer to try to get it up into my nasal sinus's. Right now my culture showed 3 strains of e coli, and the ENT is waiting for the complete results of the culture.
Good Luck to everyone that has a sinus problem, maybe some day they will find a cure, or at least a new antibiotic for us to try.

I have had this sinus infection for years. On and off for ten years. I had sinus surgery 9 years ago and it did not help. I've been on augmentin, doxycycline ,levoquin, and IV antibiotics. They tested me and said its ecoli and now I'm starting bactrim. Nothing has helped except what I have figured out on my own. I took my nasal rinse bottle that I got from Costco and put some of the doxycycline capsule in the water and irrigated my nose for a week. I used 1/6 of the capsule and shook it in the distilled water then used like I usually do to irrigate my nose. This is the only time that I have had any relief and for extended period of time The junk that comes out of my nose looks like rubber cement and cottage cheese. i hope that you all find relief from this horrible condition. I've been to several specialist and honestly I don't think that they know what they are doing.

Hi, I have been battling sinus problems with may Golden Retriever for 7 months! X-rays, blood work, CT, nasal scope and cultures. Over $3000 later, we have no cure. Been on LOTS of antibiotics for extended periods with some relief but as soon as we stop it all comes back. It is so bad that I have to remove dried snot everyday that complete block both nasals. Anyway the last culture now show a strain of ecoli that is very resistant to treatment. I am taking him to the college in Manhatten Kansas again tomorrow. So upset that I have spent all this money and still have a sick dog.
How is your dog, what was the treatment?

For the last few years, I have had a chronic small pocket of infection on the right side of sinus behind my nose: infectious fluid/yellow-green discharge will run out my nose when I am face downwards, or lean forward. My ENT's cultures have always come back positive for a type of ecoli, which is supposed to be responsive to Augmentum... However, the Augmentum only controls my infection and never clears it up. In regards to the run-off of infectious fluid, a daily rinsing using NeilMed Sinus Rinse Kit added to distilled water, will minimize the amount of infectious run-off. However, at some point, after attendind a conference, my ENT suggested adding certain prescription meds to the sinus rinse: 4 drops of gentimicin eye drops, plus a 1/2 a vial of steroid asthma medication ["budesonide" ment for a nebulizer/an off label use], to help contol the infection. Also, my 12 yr old Persian cats now have ecoli ear infections: the Vet says they can catch such infections from their litter boxes, by touching their paws to their face, or scratching their head. The "sensitivities" part of their lab cultures is not complete, but so far, it is a very resistant strain. In one cat, the chronically re-occurring infection has spread to her kidneys, as the kidneys filter the blood, which carried the infection. Possibly years ago, I wasn't careful enough with hand-washing after cleaning litter boxes... Despite what is said, I believe that infections can go back and forth between the species, and I worry that I may have contaminated the cats after touching my face. Hand washing/sanitizing is important, even wearing disposable gloves for certain projects.

Aspergillosis is the medical term. You might need sinus surgery to clean out the sinuses of solid tissue build up. The smell will not go away until the sinuses are cleaned.. I went to UCLA here in CA. Also E-Coli can spread from the gut to the sinuses. Try to not eat GMO. Organic and lots of coconut...good luck!

Well, I've been monitoring this thread for quite a while but thought it was unwise to write until I could actually contribute something positive to this conversation. I've had E Coli in my sinuses for well over 10 long years now. It was pretty bad and began affecting my digestion severely as I had a constant drip that was running down my throat inflaming my stomach and entire GI tract. I became very sick from it in 2010 and after visiting many specialists I was finally told I had to have sinus surgery because my sinuses were opacified. I went in for surgery and afterwards I was told there was a mass behind my nose they had to remove. I thought that was the end of the horror. But I  became super sick after the surgery and things spiraled. After another 6 months of suffering I demanded they test this weird blackish sputum that was appearing in the back of my throat. They were resistant for some reason but after much persistence they finally did. Results: I now had a Pseudomonas Aeruginosa infection and it had spread to my lungs which were collecting fluid. I believe I got it in that surgery. But my health went downhill FAST after that. It was terrifying how my body began reacting to that bacteria. But I fought it hard with diet (no sugars, no carbs, no  red meats) and rinsing my sinuses out with saline and apple cider vinegar. But I was barely able to stay ahead of it as it took hold of my body. Pretty soon I noticed that my sense of smell was changing. Everything began to smell the same and it was a horrible smell. I lost all of my sense of taste eventually. My body odor changed and I knew when I was out in public people could smell it. I saw it on their faces. I stopped going out into public. But my health continued to spiral and my diet became more and more restricted. My stomach looked like I was pregnant from the draining and continual e coli and pseudomonas drainage. My hair began falling out. I added Coconut Oil to my regimine (3 times a day between meals. a shotglass full.) and my hair grew back, But my sinuses remained inflamed 24/7 and that smell and taste problem persisted. My face began to age considerable and the dark areas under my eyes were so pronounced. I'm 46 and I looked 80. I have pictures. It was terrible. I tried everything. None of it worked for long. They put me on Bactrim and Levoquin together for 3 months. It barely did a thing. I began losing weight and started suffering with terrible insomnia. Benadryl and Sinus pills helped a little but also became obsolete fast. The bacteria was winning and my life was slipping away. It was so scary. I became too sick to work and lost my health insurance. And without any medical help it became a horror show. After another long year of battling this and losing I was at the end of all of my ropes. I lost my family and my life fell into debt and isolation. I couldn't take care of myself any longer. And the stomach aches were relentless and unbearable. People stayed away from me and I found myself completely alone. And studying every facet of E Coli and it's many treatments. Cross referencing everything and trying everything out I could afford. Pseudomonas has no true treatment and becomes antibiotic resistant fast. It was a race against the clock. All of my money went towards trying to recover. And I finally found something that instantly began to work. It was incredible how fast I felt relief. How suddenly I could eat foods again and the stomach aches went away. I remember crying all night but for the first time it was out of relief. My sinuses weren't swollen anymore, the drip started to subside and my gi tract returned to normal. Within weeks I'd began to look like me again. And the amazing substance that cleared it up and gave me relief was D Mannose. A simple fruit sugar found in cranberries. In my research I discovered that most UIT infections are caused by E Coli. A different, more invasive strain than what's already in the gut. And cranberry juice is known for helping UTI's. So I looked into why. E Coli attaches itself to human cells with many little fingerlike protusions that even when attacked with antibiotics remain held fast. Well, D Mannose tricks the E Coli into releasing it's grip on the cellular walls and it grips onto the sugar molecules. Which can then be easily rinsed out of wherever they reside. That's how cranberry juice helps with UTI's. So it made sense that it would work for e coli anywhere else right? YES. After 24 hours I already noticed a rapid chance. I was taking a teaspoon of D Mannose powder (By NOW Foods. The pills work great too and are a little more convenient. 4 each time) in a half glass of unsweetened Cranberry juice (YUCK!) 4 times a day before meals and within 2 days began to suddenly gain weight! My hair got soft again and my food intolerances began to go away. But the sinus problem persisted. So I decided to add a 1/2 teaspoon of the D Mannose to my sinus rinses with the saline and 1/2 capful of Apple Cider Vinegar (to break down any biofilm). I had one sinus rinse bottle for the D Mannose rinse and then another I used to irrigate them 10 minutes later to rinse out the detached E coli and bacteria. ( In case you're wondering if this is safe, XYLITOL which is already in commercial sinus rinses and products is another fruit sugar. But it did nothing for me) VOILA!!!!! Within 24 hours they weren't as inflamed and I COULD SMELL SOMETHING OTHER THAN THAT RANK STINK! Food began to taste great and my body odor began returning to normal. It happened much faster than I thought it would. And that draining down my throat tapered off as well. I'm sharing this because I know the suffering and fear you're all living with and no one should have to live like that.  I also bought a little saline nasal spray and emptied it, filled it with still mineral water (mineral water also slows the growth of bacteria because it's so alkaline) and a 1/2 teaspoon of D Mannose and carry it with me using it throughout the day. it's fantastic. So my research paid off and I get to piece back together my shattered life now. But at least I get a chance.  And I believe this is good for many Gram negative bacteria, not just E Coli and Pseudomonas. Good luck all. I'll keep coming back to check and see if this helps anybody else. I'd love to hear it does. Wishing you all speedy healing and a Happy Holiday season this year.  Sparky
