I've had chronic sinus problems for years, resulting in 8 sinus surgeries. Eventually, I too had E.Coli showing up in my nasal cultures and I'm writing to tell you all what has worked to kill it-because not just an antibiotic will, even Augmentin. My ENT prescribed Tobramycin which is an antibiotic that comes in a vial. You use a needle to extract 1ml and add it to 250 ml of salt water rinse. Using a 60cc syring, I squirt/irrigate it forcfully up each nostril. I do each side until I use up all 250 ml of the solution. I do this twice/day for 2 weeks and it completely kills the infection. The best part is it's a local treatment, meaning your not swallowing antibiotics systemically (thru your whole body) and dealing with side effects or becoming resistant. My ENT tried this because when I was pregnant I could not be on a strong antibiotic, but the local rinse was fine and would not effect my baby. I hope this helps all of you suffering-ask your ENT About it.

thepend if e.coli is not Amoxicilin resistant! antibiogram should be done wich antibiotix is resistant and sensitive.
Almost E.Coli could be resistant for Amoxicilin with clav.acid and clindamycin. but should be sensitive for tetracyclins.

They don't work at all. We'll see what happens after I get surgery.

I noticed your post is from a year ago, but i was hoping to get some insight on how things are going with your dog and if the infection ever got resolved. I am at as loss and feel so bad for my dog as he has been going sick for about 15 months with excessive nasal mucus, coughing, gagging, and sometimes breathing difficulties as well. It was discovered that he too has e coli in his nasal cavity (after 8 or so months of trying to figure it out). So I took him to a specialist and he has been on antibiotics for several months now with some improvement, but not total clear up and still has really bad days. My regular vet tried courses of azithromycin and doxycycline, but soon after going off them, he went back to being worse and we were at square one. Specialist now has him on azithromycin, higher dose and longer time, but I don't think this is going to clear it up! He is an older dog, but until this, he was very active and happy. I would love to exchange information with you... hopefully you had successful results! My dog is in the same boat, but it's been over a year! Read my reply to the original person who posted. We have been to the vet a lot, but thankfully we are seeing a real good specialist now. Feel free to contact me and we can share info and hopefully get a positive outcome.

Finally they wanted to send me to allerge expert. In the meantme I hAd a blood test and they found a urinary track antibiotic resistant ecoli infection. When they treated it it also cured my sinus.

THIS COMPOUND WORKS: Ritchies' Pharmacy Dallas Tx compounds this prescription: Gent-Mup-Beta-Clot10 capsule with Acetylcysteine in NeilMed with salt packet. Better in few days with ecoli in sinus. Not expensive; better than systemic meds for me.

I just had sinus surgery after suffering for years. It was then that the ENT discovered I have E. coli in my sinuses. I have NO idea how I got it and he said “sh*t happens.” Does anybody know the cause? And has any treatment been a long term fix yet??

I am wondering if the sulfa drug worked? I was just diagnosed with E. coli in my sinuses and starting a prescription. im allergic to penicillin and actually to a cream that contained a sulfa drug so I really hope this doesn’t bother me! But if it cures the E. coli infection then it may be worth it.
