I understand how you feel, really I became emotionally numb after I saw my best friend die and had a breakdown that lasted for hours. i've had depression episodes since childhood now its only gotten worse now im 16 i used to feel so much emotional pain. im numb now but sometimes I can feel a little happy or feel so sad yet empty. I hate being numb its hurts in my head but I don't want to feel the pain I felt before. I too wish that that I could be completely numb or die. I even planned my suicide when I turn 18. I feel like an so empty but still in pain at the same time. we both need to heal.

My son talks just like this. The only things that make him feel alive are buying things and adrenalin rush type activities like skydiving. I think part of his problem is that he's so intelligent. He questions the purpose of life more than most people, which it sounds like you do, too. I'm responding to your post in order to tell you to please not take your own life. If you get joy in classical music, then listen to it. Study it. Play it. Make a career out of it, if you can. Your life is important. You may not understand your purpose for some time, but some day you will. I'd continue to seek healing, and continue to have hope. And, perhaps you don't care, but there are others out there who would be hurt if you took your own life. I will pray for your recovery.

I feel emotionally numb most of the time and have for some time now. I'm a nurse and even though I understand the reason why I feel like this, it's still hard. I've suffered from depression since my preteen years. I had severe postpartum depression with my last 2 children. I had a very tramatic experience with my oldest child over ten years ago. And as a result of that and untreated depression for years I was diagnosed with schizoeffective disorder and major depression. I also have panic attacks and I sleep very little. My medication works sometimes but it's not always effective. I'm 39 now. I'm just praying my mental state doesn't get worse when I go through menopause.

Becoming emotionally numb is not good. If still you are having this problem then you should go to a good rehab center or medical counselor.

Hi

Have you tried some nootropics? Mood enhancing stuff etc? I used l-theanine and helped me a lot in getting my energy and emotions back.
