Ive been getting nauseous and dry heaving for at least 3 months now. ive been wondering if it could be pregnancy but then i looked at if i was allergic to dairy. but still

im nausea in the morning at 5 am when i do not eat im dry heaving at night when i just eat something and its not dairy. so maybe its acid reflux or maybe the esopagus is having issues swallowing the food.

im stressed at work but i dont think thats the case of it.

I've had this for years. I've never been to the Doctor about it but judging from some of the posts on here, there doesn't seem to be any real reason that they could identify or even cure it.

Mine happens every morning, and it's usually first thing like when i go to brush my teeth (and no i'm not sticking my toothbrush too far back... as lots of people say when i explain this to them!) and then it continues while i'm getting dressed and making breakfast. It usually stops by the time i leave the house, but sometimes happens as i get in the car.

The strange thing is, is that when i get up and i know i don't have to leave the house, and don't get washed and dressed right away it doesn't happen. It only seems to be when i know i have to get up and go to out the house to work or wherever...

This has made me think it could be related to anxiety? I have been treated for anxiety in the past, and i wouldn't say i'm particularly afraid of leaving the house; i go to work and socialize etc... i just don't see what it could be. I've even thought that maybe it's as simple as hating toothpaste....

It's horrid though! I'm rarely actually sick because of it, but when i am it's just bile and stomach fluids due to everything i've eaten being digested overnight. I wish i could make it go away.

I can totally identify with everyone except that I only get the dry heaves when exercising, and after having sex. More recently its been occuring after almost every one of my sexual encounters. No its not because he is ugly (lol), and no he's not massively huge and hitting my cervix; its satisfying, painless sex yet I heave almost every time. Some say its because of the excitement, or simply caused by orgasm, but we've been together 1.5 years and this has only started happening within the last 4 months. I have no idea what it could be and I'm pretty sure a doctor would suggest "taking it easy" on the sex for a while. But the problem is that even the most gentle sex makes me heave...what could it be???

me too! i have had these weird heaving sensations on and off for 3 years now. the first time they lasted for about 4 months, mostly in the morning, and i couldn't stand any food or any smells either. i thought i was pregnant, but was not. the symptoms left for about a year. this first time i was in a really stressful relationship and looking back thought it had something to do with that. the following year, i had the symptoms again, not for as long, but i was no longer in the stressful relationship. i was however, moving, so i figured it was still caused by stress. this year, the symptoms are back and just awful. no idea what is going on!!

I get this usually just in the mornings as well, and occasionally when I'm eating (usually if I have a lot of food in my mouth)

As someone else said too, if I know I don't have to go out, usually I won't heave.

i have been having the dry heaves for 6 years. I have been to my Doctor. Have had numerous tests run. Have kept a journal of all eating and activity to see if there was something in common that was causing them as they come on at any time on any given day (but seem to come on more in the AM). Sometimes they last for a few minutes and sometimes for hours. I am so tuckered out by the time its all over. I would give anything to find out why this happens and what can be done about it. They told me to take Gravol every day.....I am not willing to live on Gravol at all times!!!!!!

Sorry for the long post.
Yup been having the SAME thing here for the last 3 days. I'm going to go a little further in to it than some people have.

#1 I've noticed over the last 2 years or so that my stomach can not handle what it used to. I am a bartender so I have cleaned up quite a bit of vomit with no problems. NOW I simply relive something involving vomit and SOMETIMES it makes me gag. The brushing of the teeth can make me gag as well as one of the earlier posters has said.

#2 I've been in a relationship until 3 days ago for almost 2 years as well. She was with a few different guys and a few different girls as well. I didn't see any of it coming until I found out. Yeah Juliette Lewis in Old School bad. Anyway, I've been stressed out the ass for the last few months because I had suspicion and now that I find out I broke it off. My stomach is going haywire. One night I went out and ate a full rack of ribs with my friends (where I was comfortable) today at work I dry heaved about every 2 hours and ate 1 little grilled piece of chicken (when I THOUGHT about what was going on, where I was UNcomfortable). NOTHING comes up. It just hurts my jaw and my stomach more than anything.

#3 Throughout the last 2 years I honestly think I have drank at least 1 drink a day maybe missing about 10 days total. I tried to stay away from hard alcohol and I stick with beer or wine. RIGHT NOW I am drinking a glass of wine and am pretty fine.

#4 I had a bad acid trip (first F'ing time, thank God)when I was 20 and still have not been able to calm my nerves since them. I am 30 years old now and , when stressed, still get the occassional panic attack. I do not take any prescribed depression medicine and have my bad days just like everyone else. However, sometimes when I can't sleep, I DO take a valarian root or 2 to help me fall asleep. I took 2 of them last night after having only 3 beers when I got home and had crazy nightmares, cold sweats (and LOTS of sweat), and kept waking up in the morning. I could fall back to sleep only after calming myself down.

5# I just starting working out again (to get back in shape for the ladies if/when a good one comes along) and noticed the dry heaving today and today only. It feels like I was at a concert all night long in my throat. Like when you are talking all day long or you are in a band and sing all night long. Very sore throat with something that feels like phlegm but when you swallow it only makes it feel worse and possibly gets you THINKING about heaving.

#6 I smoke about a 1/2 to 3/4 of a pack of cigarettes a day and have since I was 18, so for about 12 years. (yeah I know I should quit but whatever). Alcoholism also runs in my dads side of the family and I have literally ALMOST drank for every day for 2 straight years.

Throughout all of what has been said, I'd be willing to bet that at least 75% of you have either a) had a bad trip with some mental drug, b) are VERY stressed and worry about things (like we all do), c) maybe it's physical activity related, or d) or maybe there's actually some sort of disease that we haven't figured out yet. We all know stress causes ulcers so the ulcer thing may be correct, however, I really honestly believe it's stress related. I have experience in dealing with panic attacks as I have been getting them on and off for about 10 years now. This dry heave thing is nothing more than a nuisance since we all know you can't shut your mind off all the way. For those of us that have the anxiety issues (no matter how we got those issues) I think the important part here is to figure out how to deal with those things. My situation is extreme in my eyes so I think that's why this has totally showed up with little warning. Maybe some of your problems are a little further down that you might want to look. Just take some time and write out any bad things in your life, relationship, or job on a piece of paper. Think about how the things make you feel and then rip the paper up and throw it away once you have your answer. I would be willing to bet most of our issues are from stress. I hope we can all figure this out. =)

Does anyone think this could be a food allergy? I have the exact same problem but i'm also a vegetarian and eat a lot of soy products. I am just trying to figure this thing out. It's been happening for about 6 months now and it's really hard to carry on with my normal life. Please let me know if you figure anything out.

do not go on zoloft is mood-altering is something you don't want. Zoloft tends to make you feel emotionless... sometimes dizzy/dazed and just all around "strange." It is definitly an anxiety problem which sucks because "self-treatment" is whats recommended but its hard when you're anxious and stressed about it... anyways, try prozac if anti-anxiety is what you need. If you are nauseous see if you can get a script for zofran. It has been helping... I just get some dull head pain but as a long term migraine sufferer I barely notice.

I agree with almost everyone on here. Mine started around 6 months ago I would guess? I get many of the same symptoms as you guys have experienced.

- Gagging while brushing teeth
- Gagging during physical activity (the worst for me)
- Gagging while eating but not vomiting

It has become extremely annoying for me, as I am a very active 22 year old College student who plays basketball and lifts weights almost every day, but lately I have had to stop in the middle of my workouts due to extreme fits of heaving. I still have never actually thrown anything up, I just heave and gag for a minute or so and then it comes back minutes later.

Although my main difference with most people is that I don't seem to dry heave in the morning, but mostly during brushing teeth, eating and working out (the worst).

I plan on going to the doctor soon and getting some tests done, hopefully I can find some help soon.

I get this every time I brush my teeth. Its not because of the toothbrush - it happens after I'm done brushing. I also have horrible acid reflux (I take 3 prilosec a day. If I don't I get track-stopping heart burn.)

I also suffer from sever chronic headaches. Get this - I have had a horrible headache everyday for the last three years! The doctors cant figure anything out so I quit going to them - it was just costing way too much. The only thing that keeps me sane is taking 3 Aleve per day.

I'm just trying to determine if there is a link here between my three symptoms. My headaches started when I was going through a great deal of stress, and have subsided since. But I hate this "stress" theory. I mean, every person alive has stress. I feel like I can't possibly have more than most people.

But if this is what everyone is saying, are there any remedies for stress? Besides "de-cluttering" my life emotionally, what else is there?

Doctors seem to not really care about any of my issues, so maybe some people here can start putting things together. But when my heartburn, and headaches come on at once, it seriously feels like death! Do doctors read this sh*t or are we all just story telling?

I'm 30, male and have suffered from this on and off for about 5 years. I can be fine for several months and then it always comes back again. I do not take any medicine, but I find that chewing gum helps me quite a bit. I am certain that this is a type of anxiety.

I have experienced morning dry heaves for over ten years. Now I have recent test results showing lesions on my liver. The reason I went to have my liver checked was beause my GP has been trying all kinds of tests over the yrs to figure out why I have these dry heaves. This is the first forum I've seen people talk about the dry heaves and liver issues together.

My most recent round of non-stop daily morning dry heaves has gone on for about 2 yrs straight... each episode lasts from 5 to 10 minutes, and it starts sometime in the first hour that I am up and about in the morning. Once I have the dry heaves, I am fine unless a foul or strong smell triggers me the rest of the day. This morning dry heaves sems to have gone hand-in-hand with an increased gag-reflex sensitivity.

I have had a pregnancy and had severe sickness throughout despite anti nausea meds.. it was so bad that I lost weight EVERY DAY of my third trimester and was hospitalized and my daughter was born premature... though she is a lovely thriving 9 yr old now. I want to be clear that my experiences with the morning dry heaves PRE-dates this pregnancy. I have had chronic bleeding hemmoroids since this pregnancy- and admittedly sit WAY too much for my job... but hemmoroids are so common and my GP doesn't seem worried about them ever.

I have had the weird condition called Interstitial Cystitis since I was 17 yrs old ( I am now 39). It was confirmed by a multiple bladder biopsies over the years. This condition has been in a sort of remission, with rare episodes/ spasms since a pregnancy in 2000, when I was 29/ 30 yrs old.

I have been to an ear-nose-and throat specialist who found acid scarring in my esophogus and I was told it was pre-cancerous. Any heartburn I get responds well to Gaviscon though, which I use a few times a week, some days not at all.

I had a small cervical cancer tumour removed a couple of yrs ago and had no recurrence.

Latest ultrasounds have shown that my kidney and pancreas look clean, but a yr ago 2 nodules with lesions appeared on my liver, a follow up ultrasound a month ago shows I now have 3 more which my dr admits she was shocked over. She said they are likely benign, but I am getting an MRI to make sure/ see what is going on. From what I have read online this is most often benign, but sometimes a sign of hepaptitis, or more rarely a sign of another cancer that has mastesized- likely colon, lung, stomach or pancreas. My tests continue.

I have no abdominal pains, other than dry heaving. My family - and even the dogs- scatter when I get hit with the morning dry heaves each day... and I have learned to just keep trying to do what ever I am doing through them as I never actually vomit, just heave. There is no heartburn at the times of the heaving... just a quick build of my stomach turning nauseaus until I heave, then it subsides and I move on!

This does worry me though, as I am a single parent and have just lost two people in the past year to pancreatic cancer at young ages and my grandma died young of stomach cancer. It is always this small worry in the back of my mind, but the process leaves one feeling so helpless as these sporadic tests are decided upon and I go from specialist to specialist... wait months for an opening for a test and then weeks after for results... it goes on... I wonder if it wouldn't be better just to do some one-time comprehensive body scan and get a holistic overview of the whole body, instead of disjointed far between tests of sections of a person and visits to medical specialists who never talk to each other, and leave it to an overworked, spread thin GP system to find it in themselves to bother to go through years of reports and tests to get a big picture and puzzle together what is going on- very rare is the GP who bothers to do that! One of my best friends said last night that she thinks I need "a Dr. Gregory House"! Yeah, I can just picture myself on an episode of Medical Mysteries!

I am a 27 year old male who has experienced dry heaves off and on for a couple years now. They seem to happen when I wake up early (about 5 or 6am) and do an physical activity outdoors. If I sleep til 8 or 9am and go outside for some activity it isn't a problem. I too am very prone to gagging when brushing my teeth, especially in the morning, and my dentist has said that it may be because I sleep with my mouth open. I don't have a doctor at the moment, but has anyone asked their doctor if this is asthma? I have noticed that I seem to be coughing more at night and in the early morning, especially now that I'm living at the beach where the air is moist.
