I have been running a little over 4 years and the last 6 months or so every race , doesn't matter if its a half -marathon, or 5k right before I cross the finsh line I get so sick at my stomach, I end up dry-heaving after I cross the line , I never really throw up, { just a really strong desire}but was wandering what could be causing this, Its really embarrasing when my family , friends and other runners crowd the finsh line to come across and then run behind the nearest tree.
I ran my first cross country 5k yesterday, and there was no real pushing it at the end, because of the narrow chute, but I still got sick.
Any ideas on what is going on. I usually eat a small snack 2 hours before.
Thanks!

It happens to me sometimes too. For me it just seems to be that I pushed myself that extra little bit. Run till ya puke they say. I'm not embarrassed by it though and it's never dry heaves for me. I drink plenty but thats why I like the clear gatorades. :umno:

If I really push myself at the end (read: all races I enter), then I get that. I almost always feel like puking.

i have read that drinking before a race, and for some people it means any amount, will cause nausea and sickness...some people are just more prone to the reflux thing.

for your next 5K, try not drinking or eating anything before the race and see what happens. :? i'm sure it's frustrating though.

Some people puke and/or dry heave after track session and at the end of races.

I know people that have run in the 13's for a 5k that still do that.

I wouldn't worry about it too much.

This is coming from a guy that trains and races with 3 different people that do just what you describe. I can't seem to tell a difference in their effort when it happens. It just does sometimes.

And -
A snack 2 hours before a 5k shouldn't hurt you. Unless your snack is a Grand Slam breakfast from Denny's.

D'oh that's what i've been doing wrong?
i find that the races i keep a hard pace throuout the race i get that, rather it be running or skating, i remember finding many a green patch for the post race regurg. don't worry about it if it only happens from running/raceing
