I have been having a problem with irregular periods for a number of years. I can't really remember if they were ever regular, but I went to the doctor's off an on for the problem while I was on my parent's insurance. I'm already anemic because of it and the first time I had my blood checked it wasn't even in the teens.
Usually I will go for months and sometimes even as long as a year without having one and then it will come on for months. The average now is four and five months. This current period which started Nov 1, 2007 is still going strong. I have massive and frequent clotting in addition to the bleeding.
The longest I've ever bled for was 8 months straight.
I just want to know what I should do about this. I've been on two different kinds of birth control, neither of which worked and gave me bad side effects. And when I was able to go to the doctor (I don't have insurance now so I can't at the present) they said everything looked ok and just gave me pills that didn't work. I'm worried because the last time I went I was nineteen and now I'm 26 and nothing has changed at all.
I'm getting a job during school so I can afford insurance and I'll start looking for a gynecologist this summer. Is there any advice on both how to find one in Atlanta and what I should ask?
Also, is there anything that I can do now to help with the tired feeling and the lack of concentration? It's really starting to affect me in class.
Thanks
