Hi Geraldine,

I'm sorry about your sister.

Can you tell us a little more about her condition? Is she responsive at all? What are her doctors saying?

At this point all I can tell you is that she may be more aware than everyone thinks. Please continue to talk to her, reassure her, and keep her updated as to daily events.

Post back. Good luck.

Hi Geraldine,

That type of stroke does cause visual deficits. I don't have any suggestions except to keep the environment comfortable for her, in all aspects.

I applaud your ability to take your sister into your home and care for her. If we can be of help please let us know. One thing to keep in mind, you will need a break yourself at times. Please take care of yourself too.

Someone else may be able to offer more.

All the best to you, your sister, and your son.

Dan

Hi Geraldine, my heart really goes out to you because that's very sad. Having a stroke that young is totally unexpected and I'm sure that you were all very surprised to hear it happened. I can't say that your sister is going to open her eyes because recovery from strokes can vary. It could happen, but it is likely that it won't. I agree with medic-dan that the best thing to do is make sure she's comfortable and happy. I wish you all the best...do you have any other questions?

Thanks for coming back to let me know that she's okay and that you're okay, at least. She will of course adapt. She'll get used to it pretty quickly and soon be surprising you. My heart goes out to you and I hope you're doing well. Keep us posted on any updates, okay?
