Hello! My brother suffers from lyme disease and we heard that flagyl kills most of the bacteria. Can we use this drug for lyme as well? Thank you!

Hello! You shouldn’t use anything without the doctor’s orders. As for flagyl I read somewhere that it is used only when the Bb changes into a cyst form. But it has no effect on intact spirochetes. Therefore, the trend now is to treat the chronically infected patient who has resistant disease by combining flagyl with one or two other antibiotics to target all forms of Bb. Because there is laboratory evidence that tetracyclines may inhibit the effect of metronidazole (flagyl), this class of medication should not be used in these two- and three-drug regimens. This was only for your info, don’t do anything on your own and don’t search for solutions on your own!
