*Allow me to begin by saying this is a long, detailed post and soon you will know why...
Hello,
My name is William, and after having breathing issues I looked online for others who had/have the same problem only to find that the person who made the post did so several years earlier and never gave a resolution as to what had happened. So I assure you all that I will be checking in frequently (once a week or so) to let you all know what is going on. We all need to stick together to help each other....
It was August 17 2015, when I had a toothe pulled and was told "dont smoke for 3 days to allow the socket to heal". I called my cousin and she told me she wants me around for as long as possible and to please quit smoking. So I did. However, to suffice my nicotine cravings I would dip with camel snus pouches. About a month or two after smoking cessation, I was at work on my break, sitting down playing on my phone. When I became short of breath(S.O.B). Not from exertion as I was sitting. It lasted no longer than 5 minutes and went away. I found it, terrifying but didnt tell anybody about the experience. A few days later the same thing happened, sitting down, I became short of breath. Again, it lasted no more than 5 or 10 minutes. As time went on the duration of shortness of breathe became longer and longer. Sometimes it would happen while being active at work other times it would happen while being at home watching TV while laying on the couch. Eventually about 6 months into smoking cessation (but still using snus dip tobacco), the shortness of breath lasted all day, every day. So I finally went to the doctor. The doctor listened to my breathing, no mucus, airways were clear and took X-Rays. After looking at my XRAYS, she told me "you have a tiny amount of irritation in your lungs but nothing more than that. She prescribed me an inhaler called 'dulera' and told me once a day I want you to use this. I used it the next day without a change in my S.O.B., so I discontinued use of it. The very next day was the worst to date. When I woke up that morning I was incredibly tired. When I got to work, my boss called me to his office. I thought I was going to get fired. He simply informed me of what needed to be fixed that day. Upon leaving his office I could now barely breath. I called my brother, who was close by and told him to come to my job quickly and take me to the hospital. I arrived to the hospital and told them what had happened and what I had been experiencing for the past 6 months. They took XRAYS and gave me a breathing treatment. Though I felt better I still couldnt get a full breath. After a review of my xrays and questions such as have you ever had asthma? No. The ER doctors told me, you have had an asthma attack due to it being cooler this morning here is an albuterol inhaler for emergencies. There is nothing wrong qith your lungs and nothing that i need to keep you here for. The ER doctor said...I dont have a clue why the hell your primary care physician(P.C.P) gave you a dulera inhaler. The next morning I went back to my P.C.P the next morning, she gave me a breathing Test and told me..."after reviewing your breathing test with another doctor that works here, I am under the impression that you have the absolute earliest stage of copd. She then gave me a shot, which she said was steriods, that would last three months and also gave me prednisone pills, 5 days worth. She also gave me a breo inhaler. About halfway through the prednisone pills I felt better but soon after they were gone, the sob came back. The breo did nothing, and the rescue inhaler did very little as well. She then sent me to a pulmonologist in august pf 2016. The pulmonologist told me to stop using the breo maintenance inhaler and to only use the albuterol in emergencies only. By this time I was usong the albuterol inhaler 3x per day. The pulmonologist told me, I want to give you our breathing test because ....ours is better than your pcp's. After the results came out he said I dont think you have copd. He said you have 100% lung capacity 107% with albueterol. He said, I think this has to do with stress. He prescribed me antidepressants. Which to date i have not taken yet. But now have decided that its worth a shot. I have had chest XRAYS, blood work and ct scans and all come back normal. Though this started happening after i quit smoking. I did move into a house to start renting, I was becoming late to work and told one more time and you're fired. Taking care of my unemployed older brother and meeting my dad for the first time in twenty years. So there are a lot of stresses going on at this time. In october of 2016 I started smoking again because nothing else helped and though my sob is not as bad as before, it certainly hasnt gone away. I am currently twenty eight years old. I started smoking when I was 13 or fourteen and all together probably smoked a pack a day for 12 years. I used to be on drugs...heroin, snorting it but have been on methadone for 7 years to quit the drugs. Anyone who has a similar story please share. If youve been through this and there is something that helps or this problem used to happen to you, we would love to hear that too. Im sorry this story is long but I am trying to figure this out because Im not the only one. Also when I wake up in the morning I feel fine but on my way to work I start to feel the S.O.B. After I try the Antidepressants I will reply to let you all know how that goes. The more details the better
Take care,
William
